64 Tempest Safari custom wagon under construction. Has 79 Pontiac 350, TH350 trans, 70 Chevelle power front disc brakes, Trans Am quick ratio power steering, 1.25" Trans Am front swaybar, rebuilt front and rear suspension, boxed rear suspension arms w/GTO swaybar. Car was oringinally from Texas, very solid. All body work and paint is done. Color is 2002 Dodge Flame red over 2001 PT Cruiser black. Interior is red/grey and will feature PT Cruiser leather seats front/rear. Door panels, carpet and headliner will be done to match. Original gauges have been replaced with custom dash panel and Auto Meter gauges. Aftermarket stereo and Vintage Air heat/def/AC will be added along with custom center console and leather wrapped Grant steering wheel.

Picking car up in Canada. It was cold! Cheryl was freezing, but happy to have found another Tempest! Car was originally from Texas. Very little rust.

On the way home to IL. Stopped at buddy's house in Grand Rapids, MI. Yeah, the 18" wheels looked great, but didn't clear fenders. Had to go! This was the first time the car ever had snow on it since 64!

Dash gutted, getting ready for paint.

Body work started. Doors and front fenders were chemically stripped. No rust at all. Rest of car was mechanically stripped to bare metal. Minimal metal work done around rear wheel lips, rear side window frames and tailgate frame. Roof rack holes were welded up. Tailgate had been hit and poorly repaired. Replaced with a rust free gate from 64 Chevelle. All trim holes were welded up.

The car originally had chrome trim along the beltline. It was removed and all holes welded up. Custom painted "brushed stainless steel" graphic with airbrushed trim and Tempest logo on quarter panel was added.

Under hood. Hood was perfect, no rust. Original heater/AC box was removed and firewall smoothed. Vintage A/C to be added in the future.

Engine: '79 350 Pontiac w/57K original miles. TH350 trans. Will add Edelbrock RV cam kit and dual exhaust. Already had Edelbrock Performer intake, I added Edelbrock carb.

Under cover in heated garage. Waiting for more funds and time. Actually, this pic shows wrong cover. I ordered from California Car Cover and they sent me one for a 37 Pontiac Coupe. Didn't exactly fit as you can see. They replaced it with the correct cover which fits perfectly.

Awesome Job!!!!! Paint looks great, nice colors. dash work is over the top. Nice work on the motor, and with the suspension work it must be great driver as well. I guess I'm old school... The big rims actually look pretty good (they just don't work on most cars) Did you use drop spindles? Reworkin the entire front end of my GTO this winter. You rate 5 stars with me partner!!!1 Its all about the PONTIAC. Enjoy that ride and check out my Poncho's sometime.

How did you make your dash? I'm in the process of restoring/customizing a 64 lemans convertible and am thinking about doing something simular to my dash. Looks awesome so far. :)
