About the Ford Focus SVT (SVTF)
The Ford Focus SVT was released in 2002 and was a hit for auto enthusiasts and editors. Car and Driver scored it the best hatch in their Desert Foxes article and scored it second to the newly released SRT-4 in its 2003 Car and Driver - Featherweights article only due to the SRT-4's raw power.
Road and Track Magazine raved about the SVT Focus in July 2002 placing it first overall over the Tiburon GT-V6, Civic Si, Nissan SE-R, and VW GTI 1.8t in their Factory Furious article and placed it third to the rarely seen Nismo SE-R and TRD Celica GT-S in their 2004 article High Desert Showdown .
Automobile Magazine loved the SVT Focus, and in its 2002 Sport Compact Comparo gave the trophy to the SVTF and also named it the Best Coupe in 2002. In 2003, they gave the SVT Focus the 2nd place mark behind the SRT-4 but ahead of the Mini Cooper S and the Mazdaspeed Protege in their 2003 Cheap Speed article.
The car was a hit that Ford never capatilized on. And with SVT being practically dead and the Ford Brand going in reverse, we may never see a factory hot Focus on the US shores for quite some time.
