The 1st Build
This page will just be a progress page of the 1st clean up build aimed at getting the car looking half roadworthy and registered quickly. Obviously it failed as, as mentioned on the 1st page, the engine turned out to be very worn out and so low on compression it had no hope of starting off the key.
As you can see, there was some minor rust.
And the engine bay wiring and plumbing was terrible. So we set about cleaning up those things and the outside paintwork a bit (quick sand and paint from a can), as well as the interior.
Old Seats:
New Seats (spare from my previous 323):
The wiring loom came out and was almost completely redone with new wire (Thanks Rian):
Engine bay looks much neater with wiring and stuff cleaned up, if still definitely a bit messy.
Looks better with the grill painted and fitted too.
Door trims cleaned, painted and refitted (with speaker grills covering holes)
New dash and gauges setup:
Unfortunately at this point my camera died. Nevertheless I got the entire car back together and though it could be towstarted it still refused to start off the key no matter what I did. Eventually I did a compressiontest to find compression was at 50-55psi in each housing. Doh! Just goes to show I should have checked it before I bought it instead of figuring that cos it went hard it must be alright.
Once rebuilt it sat for a few months while I fixed my girlfriends car (Datsun 260Z) and bought some new parts for mine. If I was going to rebuild it I was going to do it properly. Go to the next page to find out how the build is progressing.
