
Here she is! Fresh from the motherland. This is my 1981 VW Polo with the 1.1l in the rarest of rare colors, Lidogr?n. This is 1 of a small handful of mk1 Polos in the USA (estimated at less than 6). This car was 100% unmolested when it was imported from Germany by Ed at eCode Parts.com. The body has a few 'minor' blems that were obviously repaired by the original owner and will be restored to perfect in the coming year. This car is near flawless inside and out and runs better than anything I own!! While it may not be the fastest VW I've owned, it's hands down the funnest car I have ever driven. Could it get any better ???
YES IT CAN !!
Just after purchasing it in unmolested form, I molested it!! I was intending to keep all parts so it could easily be restored to original condition easily, but the rust monster wouldn't allow it. The rear suspension had to literally be cut off to install the new 60mm drop suspension. No turning back now! I also purchased a very rare set of era specific wheels for the little dub> a set of 13" ATS Pepperpots! They are wrapped in 175/50-13 Sumitomos and it manuevers quite nicely now!

This past year at the greatest damn VW show on the east coast, H2O International, we decided to see how many 'big boys' we could stuff in to the Polo. Well ... fitting and driving are 2 totally different beasts !! hahahaha

And lemme tell you about the crowd this thing draws. In a normal crowd, you may get 1 or 2 military folk know what it is from renting Polos while overseas. It's nice to hear "Hey ! That's a mk1 Polo !!!" But that goes to the next level at a VW enthusiasts show. This year at H2Oi, I couldn't go a city block without people shouting WASSAP, SWEET CAR, NICE POLO, or getting a thumbs up or a paparazzi style camera attack. But it also draws hot chicks!! Haha ... OK, not really but my buddy's wife and her friend were happy to pose for me.

So what's next?? I have new wheels ON THE WAY!! That's right. I love the ATS's but I think it needs something a little more aggresive to suit my taste. So new custom built wheels should be on by spring and the suspension is getting tightened up and lowered a bit more. The body is also getting a slight massaging. Nothing fancy, just fixing a few dings and some minor rust spots and getting a duckbill installed up front. I'll also be adding real euro plates for the true euro feel.
