THANK YOU TO ALL WHO NOMINATED ME FOR SHOW OFF AND TO CAR DOMAIN FOR PICKING MY CAR.I knew I met a lot of great people on here but didn't realize how many until you all posted to me the same day. LOL! Thank you all!
Hi and welcome to my Barracuda pages. First off Thank You to Patrick with his Copper Cuda for answering questions about the car before I bought it making my decision easier. My love affair with cars started here in July 1972 in my uncles race car. It was a 50 something chevy>
Here's the story....
I have never preferred one car make over another in my life.I like all cool cars no matter what make. I'm 35 and finally had some money to spend on a cool toy which I never had one in my life really. I searched the internet high and low for something you don't see everyday and in my price range until I came across a website Hooked on Classics. It's an auto museum in Watertown Minnesota and here are the pics I seen.
Not much to go on I know but I knew this was the car I had to have. I drove 3 hours to see it and when I got there I fell in love with it at first sight. The car was buried against the back wall furthest from the door and they said I would have to come back when someone was healthier, the old owner had a severe back injury and his kid had a broken foot. Well screw that, I just drove 3 hours , I knew if I went home empty handed I would slowly spend the money on more sensable family things like always and I would never get anything nice. They turned it over and when I first heard that motor they knew I was getting it ,there was no hiding my excitement when the cuda roared to life. So I pretty much said I wasn't leaving without it and went to Subway across the street for lunch with my wife and when we got back it was just seeing daylight for the first time in who knows how long. They had to shuffle out around 25 other cars to dig it out and I'm sure the poor kid took extra painkillers for his foot since most of the cars were clutch.
When I drove it home it started raining but the car had no windshield wipers then the window fogged up. When I turned on the defrost dust and smoke poured out the vent so shut it off quick. When I got home and checked the vent door on the passenger side there were 2 mice skeletons and a good wad of my seat material in there. Later found out that was all there was to it so not too bad.Heat and defrost work great. Here are pics when I first got home with it.
This car turns heads and people honk and wave all the time. I keep thinking I left the McDonalds bag on the roof or something is leaking or dragging from the car. Not used to the attention because it's a cool car I'm driving. Something I'll have to get used to I guess. Not to mention the extra 10 minutes to pop the hood every stop and talk about it with someone.
After a few days searched for a build sheet and found mine destroyed by mice next to another skeleton and a bunch of corn kernels under my back seat. The car has a 340 cast in January of '71 bore .030 over with Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons,Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock Performer Plus Cam, 360 J heads, Holley 650 carb, msd ignition, accel super stock coil, new Mopar electronic distributor, Optima Battery, 727 torqueflite trans, 1/2" wheel studs and front disk brakes. It's running American Racing 200s rims with Bf Goodrich tires.
Keep in mind that the horsepower is just an estimate by the builder. The 400 horse is just the motor, not to the rear wheels, 25 to 75 is lost before it gets to the pavement so I'm told. This car only runs on premium fuel mixed with a 1/3 tank of 111 octane race fuel, no cheap cruises in this thing.\>
Here is the new video shot 3-5-07 after the rebuild. I only got on it 1/4 throttle to baby the motor until it's broke in. Maybe I do need to win a set of tires from car domain.Anybody know why my youtube uploads end up with the sound and image out of sync? It's fine in my files but turns to crap when I upload it.
