If anyone in Australia knows where I can find the factory badges for my 1974 Galant please email me, email@example.com, Thanks..
After a month of waiting, it finally arrived!!! My 1974 Dodge Colt aka Mitsubishi Galant. Hard to believe but this ride has 5700 origional miles on it and hadn't been started since 1981 until today (09/28/2006). With the OEM tires on it I drove it up and down the street a little bit until the water pump went out. The car even has the "new car smell" to it. More pics and info will be coming soon. Thats all for now. firstname.lastname@example.org
The Plan: (09/30/06)
Well right now the plan is to first have it repainted. Its hard to tell from the photos but there are dents and scratches down both sides of the car. To go with the paint job will also be a set of Panasport rims I came across and some new tires to go with that. Im not trusting the rubber from 1974. I'm then looking at swaping the motor for a nonturbo dohc 4g63 fed by webber sidedrafts with a w-58 Toyota transmission behind it. I chose this to add some new elements but still keep it an old school ride. Also I pretty much have all the parts already from my DSM projects. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, hit me up.
Well the plan has been revised... I recently came across a 1987 Mitsubishi Starion which has the stock G54b turbo motor in it. This is going to be the most reasonable swap for my budget, which is not very big.
The engine bay needs a little cleanup, we did not find the origional battery, but we did find the origional air cleaner, alternator, fan belt, and spark plugs.
The first task was to drain about 2 gallons of varnish out of the gas tank. They were nice enough to put a drain plug on these tanks. We did not find any sludge in the tank which im not sure how that happened when the car hasnt moved since 1981. It was kept in a garage in Pittsburgh, PA so I don't think it ever got hot at all. I don't know that might be why.
The inside still smells like a new car. the interior is virtually untouched. It still had the plastic cover over the hood release handle.
