Car Updates since original completion.

jmiller126's 1966 Ford Mustang

Update...............

So the Supercharger arrived, and it will take a couple weeks to get everything to fit.  Need new slightly shorter valve covers that still clear the roller rockers, possible a lower to upper intake spacer, and alot of hope that the hood still fits once its bolted on.  Picture below is just after I modified my home made one peice shock tower brace.  I will definetly be putting those cooler plugs in before this is bolted in for good.  looks like the left bank will be a pain to change plugs later.  Decided to upgrade just a little to 24 lb injectors.  Will have to find that 24lb mass air transfer function table on the internet I saw before and put it in the EEC Tuner.  Guess I will be starting from scratch on the whole tuning thing.....  Sure glad to have that Air to Fuel ratio meter in the car.  That should make this retune a bit simpler, hopefully.

Update again...

Trick Flo sells some valve covers that fit perfect even if they arent the best looking. I went from needing to space up the blower 1/2" to have any clearance at all over the valve covers to having 1/4" clearance without spacing the blower up at all.  Good thing to since the hood only has 1/2" clearance right now.  Happy to have those heavy full wrap around poly motor mounts so I dont have to worry about the motor twisting up and smacking the hood.  And those mounts cant seperate over time like the old original style.

As you can see these valve covers did fix the clearance issues perfectly and the Scorpion roller rockers seem to fit just fine under them.  I especally liked the fact that they did not come with any breather holes so you can put the hole exactly where you want it.  Factory holes always end up in the worst spots.

Had to make a couple brackets, one for the throttle cable, and one for the front of the blower and coil mount.

Only parts missing now is the correct size blower pulley and a stock 93 pulley to match.  after a week of research the cobra pulley is not available anywhere in this galaxy.

I need to box in the filter to insure cold air, but this time of year it shouldnt be to bad for running around til I can manufacture a box to close in that filter.

Updated again....

SuperCharger Finally finished.  Three weeks..  Mainly waiting for the next part you figured out that you needed.  Pully finally arrived.  Wow, what a difference.  The great part is that studder I always had from the cam at low speeds is completely gone.  Now I can cruise down to 1200 rpm even in 1st gear and no studder/jolting of the driveline.  Now it will burn through first, burn through second, and chirp third.    Next will be larger Aluminum Radiator.  I can tell this wont make through next summers heat without it.

Also need to install a boost guage and fuel pressure gage on the windshield pillar.  Kind of flying blind on the tune on this thing without knowing whats going on.  Im only running a 10 degree BTDC timing mainly for the heat control since I have this small 3 core radiator.  Running around 12:1 fuel at idle, and 12.9:1 full throttle pretty much throughout the entire rpm range.  Pretty happy with that tune using the eec tuner.  Afraid of the timing at this point since I cant even begin to hear detonation with this exhuast.  Only thing I can really do is watch the temp guage and thats pretty much a joke.

This blower does make a small block feel like a big block.  Idles louder and deeper now, and much louder through a launch.  Tourque is greatly improved in any gear from 2000 rpm and up. It may not be the best choice if you want to drag race since it will easily burn through 1st and 2nd now, but the huge tourque of a twin screw gives you that "big block" feeling the entire time you are driving it.   And besides, there its way fun to ease it into 2nd gear, punch the throttle and fishtail all the way up to the 3rd gear shift.  Clutch should hold up for a long time on the streat since you never have to dump the clutch to get weel spin.

Picked up a boost and fuel pressure guage, but need to design a permanent dash configuration for guages.  Dont really want to slop wire them in for a months worth of driving at this point in the season.  Really need to finish the project below before getting into the dash wiring overhaul this winter.....

And over the last year and a half, I have been working on my neighbors Bronco.  A total frame off redo.  This truck needed so much body work! But its almost done. I have been keeping track of time on this one..  So Far 320 Hours incuding the paint work, sanding and buffing the clearcoat ect.  A Photo Below...  Once the Electrical, Interior, Windshield and role bar is complete, It should look pretty tough for a Old Style Bronco.

Take a real close look at this photo below (click to enlarge).  This is the point in the project where I am saying what in the world did I get myself into!

This will give you some idea as to how bad the rust was.... Not a very motivating time during the project.  This is why I chose to fix as much of the sheet metal before taking the body off the frame, along with welding in the brace.  Turns out, those lower to upper quarter panel seams (upper left in photo) were totally rotted out as well.  Had to remove them and weld in new steel.  For me, getting into a project like this must be similar to having a baby.  Once your in this deep, you regret getting into it at all.  After you finish, you dont ever want to do it again.  And after a period of time you forget how bad it was and next thing you know your into another project.  This truck was held together by 15 coats of old paint.

So Far here is what its looking like.  Just need another month or so of spare time (not working on the mustang upgrades) to get this bronco finished.

Hello i would like to thank you because you gave me the idea to go with the conversion. A buddy in the military told me about this web page that had a guy who converted a coupe to a fastback....and it was your pics that inspired me. Thanks and now i'm working on my second coupe to fastback conversion. The '66 took me 4 months and my '65 will go faster.
