Interior & Sound System

Jeeps are cool cars in my opinion, but the interior, as it comes from chrysler, needs a little touching up. Not to mention an upgrade in the way of technology. I think what stands out the most are the white face gauge overlays I added. At night they've got a pretty cool reverse indiglo thing goin' on, and they change color from green to blue. Plus I wired them into the factory headlight switch so they turn on and off with the headlights. The dimmer lives under the steering column.

I also repainted the factory woodgrain trim and gauge bezel to a Gunmetal with a gloss clear coat finish. Looks excellent with my white face gauges.
White gauge overlays sit right on top of the factory gauges. The control mounted under the steering column. The gauges are switched on and off with the headlights. They illuminate teal or blue and have a dimmer on the controller as well.

nilmadic's 1997 Jeep Grand CherokeeI walked into Best Buy one day on a whim. It was a payday. I decided I needed a new head unit. Ironicly, Alpine decided to release their iDA-X001 head unit the same day. I had seen it on their website and thought it was cool, but couldn't see spending that much of my hard earned dinero on a head unit until I was holding said head unit in my hands. As you can see I left with it and I'm glad I did. It's great for the iPod. Not so great if you have CD's, as there's no CD player built in. You can add a changer, but i'm not into that. The iPod's great. The screen and controls are the same size as iPod's as well.

The rest of my system consists of two Interfire amps. a 900/1 for the 12" OZ Audio subwoofer, and a 700/4 for the Alpine Type S coaxial 6-1/2's in the doors. I have no cap yet. That's coming soon, hopefully, there's so much crap to buy!!!! I'll also be adding, eventually, tweeters, an optima yellow top, gold plated power terminals designed for high current audio systems, and a mac mini with 7" motorized touchscreen, and a higher output alternator....I could keep going.
I finally finished my system. I used the empty space between the seats and the rear storage shelf to house both amps and the power distribution. I threw in some blue neon. Looks dope covered in vinyl. I did it all myself.

PHONE:
nilmadic's 1997 Jeep Grand CherokeeMy Treo 680 sits in it's custom fit cradle wit the 12v supplied from inside the dashboard. I got very tired of having the car charger coil cord strung across the the steering column.
The phone connects with the Alpine head unit using Bluetooth technology and the Alpine KCE-300BT Bluetooth receiver. The receiver is mounted inside the dash as well, behind the headlight switch unit. The microphone for the phone is on the center overhead console.

So I recently added a nice big shelf in the cargo area. I have to admit i didn't come up with the idea, but i thought it was great.

So these are the lighting switches. The driving lights are intended to be wired so that the relay gets a 12v feed from the hi-beams. Instead I wired the lights with 12v going through the aircraft switch. This allows the aircraft switch to act as an arming switch for the lights as well as a blackout switch. Plus it just feels cool to switch it.

Hey man, I REALLY like that rack set-up you've got there. I always really liked Kevin's rack especially, but it seemed sorta expensive to me.. Did you think it's worth the money for the rack?
