The Paint Phase

The orginal color of the car is 28-Fathom Blue with the White Racing Stripes. The interior was acutally blue, but years ago and changed it to black and now it is ivory. This page will show the pictures of the car under going the "blocking and priming, final body prep, painting in the booth and the masking and painting of the stripes.

Block sanding has begun and body alignment. Next is a coat of expony primer. With a lot of older cars, body panels tend to have some "factory" waves to them. All the body panels on my Chevelle are orginal except for the front fenders and hood. There is a lot of blocking needed to get these panels perfectly straight. The time and effort will be well worth it in the end!!!

After the car is sanded, she will be pulled apart and everything will be edged. Once the edges are painted, the car will be put back to gether, aligned, blocked again and finally sprayed. More to come!!!

The second round of block sanding has occurred and a few low spots appeared. They were addressed and a thrid coat of primer will now be sprayed. Once more round of block sanding and then the car can be pulled apart for the edging of all the jambs and undersides.

We have paint!!!! The car was painted with PPG DBC Fathom Blue Basecoast code 28A. After the first coat was applied, the car was wet sanded with 1000 to make sure everything the straight and any last minute "touch ups". (I even help out with the sanding a bit). After that, the car was shot with two more coats of base and two coats of clear. Next the car will wet sand the hood and deck lid to get it ready to receive the white stripes and finally a third coast of clear.

After we finished the car, we blocked it again!!! There was a a few spots that we were not happy with. So the car was blocked again, sprayed with two more coats of base, 3 coats of white for the stripes and finally 3 coats of clear. These shots are after the first coat of clear. In a few days, the color will be sanded and buffed and finally back home!!!
