As you can see, the interior is shot.  Plus, I'm ready for something new and original.

An old Firebird I found in the junkyard provided all of the missing interior parts I needed.  The best part was it had all of the interior mounting hardware (screws, bolts, etc) and hard to find parts like the small dash vents for the defogger, the caps for the rear hatch stays, and the big plastic bolts to hold the cargo hatch panels together.

Here are some of the parts I got from the junk Firebird.  The seat belts were perfect, I think someone had replaced them just before it went to the junkyard.  I couldn't believe my luck!  All of this, a center console, a 140 MPH dash unit, and a few other things for $75!  What a deal!

The center console wasn't perfect, but it was better than what I had.  I did some research off of a fellow board member and decided to fix this one.  Heat, epoxy, and clamps and it was almost good as new.  Saved a few hundred dollars here. The restoration companies are getting rich off of people.

With everything out of the car, I had a reality check.  I contacted Lafayette Auto Trim and asked them to put it together because I don't have time.  These guys are top notch professionals: they love their job, have over 70 years experince combined between two people, and fixed things I didn't ask them to do.  It is great to find someone who is passionate about thier work.  While I had the car at thier shop, I talked with Chico and we decided on black and red for the interior instead of the stock grey and red.  Here the cargo compartment carpet is being installed.

Lafayette Auto Trim "rebuilt" my old headliner because they didn't like the plastic ones.  They spent hours restoring the original headliner backing and it fits like it is suppose too. The plastic one they ordered left gaps between the body of the car.  They also did the sail panels, sunvisors, door panels, and all carpet areas.  While they were busy sewing seats and fixing the headliner, I found an embordiery shop to do 1991/1992 style lettering "Trans Am" and "Firebird" emblems.

Lafayette Auto Trim did a fantastic job.  I highly recommend them to anyone who wants things done right.  The black and red was my idea, I wanted something different.  The black portion of the seat has red thread sewn into it.

Unfortunately, it was raining the day it was finished.  So, here are a few samples until I can get some good pictures.

The new interior colors changed the whole car.

These pictures were taken right after it was completed.

The new door panels, it looks like over spray on the black part, but it is the light.

It finally quit rainning and here is a picture of the completed door panel outside.

It was cold outside when I picked it up.  I can't wait to see it with the T-tops off and in the sun...I have to admit, it was really awesome to finally drive it with the new interior.  I waited over 15 years for that moment.  The next big project is to disassemble the car for body and paint.
