I just purchased the car on 9/14/06 for $2800. There are a few rust spots. The headlights aren't that bright. The tachometer doesn't work. The temperature gauge and voltage meter don't work. AM radio doesn't work. The cigarette lighter doesn't work. My tailpipe rattles sometimes. The clock doesn't work. My instrument panel doesn't light up. The top has a broken seem. Hopefully I can find someone to sew it up for me before it starts raining. My rear brakes are leaking a little. The seats are torn and look bad. The seats are made of denim. Some parts are faded and black, some parts are still blue. I think the blue denim looks cool and will probably redo the seats in denim. She looks good the way she is. I turn a lot of heads in my car, but I want a new coat of paint and shine her up a bit more. My goal is to fully restore this car with the help of my friends since I don't know much about cars.

I don't know too much about cars so I'm kinda learning as I go along. I even learned how to drive a manual when I bought this car. I recently changed my own oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs with the help of a friend. The old fuel filter had bits of sand in it so the car ran really poorly. The spark plugs were also misfiring. I'll replace the air filter soon. I also have really bad oil, brake, and differential leaks. Soon, maybe in a week, a friend and I will be adding a head unit in the glove box and adding speakers into the doors. The reason for the head unit going into the glove box is because I want to maintain a stock look with the standard AM radio. I'll make a little chart breaking down the prices of everything later as a way of keeping track.

Update 04/23/07: So I've decided to just engine swap the U20 for a SR20DE. The cost of rebuilding my U20 is just so high. The SR20DE will be cheaper and probably a lot more efficient.

Update 03/16/07: I got my car back from the mechanic a couple days ago. I've been without Jean for over 2 months. Apparently my distributor was put in wrong. It took a long time to get her fixed because I incorrectly diagnosed the problem as a bad carburetor. Also about an hour ago my room mate accidentally hit my car with his MGB. Oh well... The dent will pop right out and now I have an excuse to repaint my car.

Update 12/16/06: My shift lever broke off.

Update 11/13/06: The bungie cord holding up my tail pipe finally melted a couple days ago. I was surprised that it lasted so long. I finally stopped being lazy and called up a friend that knows how to weld to weld the tail pipe back on the broken bracket. Also put the correct air pressure in the tires. Some of the tires were over inflated and others were incredibly under inflated.

Update 10/10/06: Fixed my rattling tailpipe. It's currently being held up by a bungee cord. It's sad, but that's what happens when you buy an old car without having extra cash for maintenance I guess. The zipper on my tonneau got messed up today too. The teeth don't line up anymore so I can't zip it up.

I get lots of looks when I'm with her. The reason why her name is Jean. Yeah, that's denim in there. I think the blue denim looks cool on red.

The view from the front and back. You can see my tailpipe being held up with a bungie cord.

She doesn't look that bad with her top on. Luckily it hasn't rained too much yet. I haven't had any water get through that huge gash.

I want to be able to make it to the Japanese Classic Car Show next year so I'm up for any suggestions.

When do you think you may get rid or are you going to get rid of the low seats? I am just now starting to work on my 1600. Do you know of any web sites that have low prices? Laters
