2007 Mods Page

2007 was a great year for the Red Wolf. I set my list in April of everything I wanted to get done, and everything got done except the brakes. I am a new father so I had to make the car comfortable for hauling the baby. However, in the years to come I will be doing the custom body work, a new paint job and maybe some serious bolt-ons.

This is the a blog of everything I have done to the car in 2007

AUGUST 8-24-07 > I took my rims off and cleaned them, rotated the tires, much, much smoother ride!! I also repaired and aligned the rear driver's side window regulator. Now 3 out of the 4 windows work flawlessly. Part for window #4 is on its way. 8-29-07 > Replaced the rear pass. side window regulator. All 4 windows are 100%. I went to replace my rear engine mount with a new VF Enginering mount and it is the wrong one. So now I have to drive all the way to ECS Tuning and exchange it.

SEPTEMBER 9-3-07 > I was planning on replacing the Transmission today, but I found out about half way through that i needed a special driver only used on Dubs called a Tripple Square driver. I have them now so we will be making a second attempt at a new tranny, and the beautiful world of reverse, next week. The time didn't go to waste however, I replaced the tranny mount with VF Eng. (still waiting on ECS to get the correct rear mount) and replaced all the shifer bushings. While that was apart I put in Neuspeeds short shift, and painted some of the parts. It looks good and feels awesome!!!!!

SEPTEMBER 9-10-07 > Lots of little stuff today. I have been leaking/spraying oil up top and down low. So I replaced the valve cover gasket, but in the process I found many other little projects to do while the top of the engine was apart. I cleaned off the engine, it will need more detailing later, but it is a big improvement. I replaced some hoses that were going bad or were already. I cleaned out the intake pipe, manifold and the throttle body, and then put it all back togeather again. Its looking good and driving real nice!! I just need some new suspension to keep it level and planted.

SEPTEMBER 9-21-07 > I replaced the oil pan gasket which included a windage tray to help scrape oil off of the crankshaft. There was a plastic one already in the oil pan, but this one is musch better. Once it was apart it was easy. I took the opportunity to clean up any components involved. Yes it's boring but unitll all this stuff is done, I can't put my supercharger on!!!

OCTOBER 10-5-07 > I finally fixed the problems in my ignition column. First I had to remove the airbag and steering wheel. That part was easy, the hard part came when I had to pull the ignition housing off to replace the ignition switch. It has a tiny little screw in the back that you have to remove in order to change it. I also had to drill a hole to release the ignition cylinder. And that was after I cut off the shear bolt that holds it on. The real fun part was finding a puller for the sleeve adapter, so I could pull the housing off to access that little screw. I was able to finish it off by putting on a new wiper and new turn signal switches. Now everything works the way VW intended ( I just have to get my airbag light to go off!)

OCTOBER 10-10-07 > I finally got some time off to do the Transmission. I cleared my schedule for yesterday and today and knocked it out. Everything went pretty smoothly and I topped the rebuilt transmission with some Redline MTL tranny fluid. all of my shifts are much smoother now, and I can go in reverse! :) A couple more tweeks and this thing will be great. Here are some pics from the install.

These are the tripple square driver bolts that didn't let me get this done over labor day weekend (see above) Now that I have the appropriate drivers, it was not a problem. I even cleaned them!

NOVEMBER 11-05> I finally made it to some of the fun stuff!! new H&R Cup kit, yeah baby!! It's on and it's AWESOME!! I test drove a new Audi A3 and it couldn't touch this. As usual there was a couple of little unexpected suprises. The first was a snapped wheel bolt. I tried griping and twising it, heating it, cutting a slit in it and nothing worked. finally I had to drill it out. But nothing could damper my spirits to get this stuff on. Then I found out you need a through socket to hold the shock piston while you turn the nut. I went up to Sears to pick one up, but they don't carry it in a 22mm. I was able to get it off with an impact driver anyway. So everything went on pretty good and you can see the difference in the shock heights. The ride is very comfortable but you can push it real hard in the turns!!
