First Time with Kenne Bell Supercharger Installed (Before engine build up)
On a night where the heavy fog in San Diego played havoc with traction at times (as well as the air density), my car still performed pretty well. The main purpose of the night was to get some real live track testing info with the baseline tune we have in it (although having fun was a big part of the night too).
Like I said, the fog caused some slick track conditions at times, but when it hooked up, it felt very good. It pulled nice and hard all the way, and the shifting was firm, but not violent. Adam has this thing running pretty damn good, considering we're still on an 8# pulley, with a "safe" pump gas tune, and we really haven't had much chance to spend any time on the dyno. In the coming weeks, we will continue to work together to up the boost and nail the tune even better. Adam is going to make this thing kick ass!!
Before I went to the track, my personal goal was to get into the 7's (remember, this is an 1/8-mi track). I was not disappointed. After a tire-spinning, no-traction first run, my second pass (hot lapped just minutes after the first run) resulted in a timeslip showing 7.980sec @ 86.37mph (with a 60' time of 1.828). Woohoo!! And after all was said and done around midnight, I ended up with three runs in the 7.90s and four runs in the 7.80s.
The best run of the night was 7.859 sec @ 87.72mph (~12.20 in the 1/4-mi). The 60' time on this run was 1.790 (which is not too bad for an auto trans with a stock converter). And in the brackets, this thing was deadly consistent. I was dialed in at 7.89 and ran 7.895 and 7.899 in winning the first two rounds. In the Semis, the slick track bit me and I spun the tires bad.
So all in all, I'm very pleased with the results from last night. We are very close to my goal of hitting the 11-sec zone (i.e., <7.70 in the 1/8), and I am confident that we will get there in the near future.
These are the videos (sorry about the in-and-out focus on some of these. The camera tends to do that at night for some reason):
Run #1: This first run was on a green track. Only one other car had been down it and it was very slippery. I got no traction... you can see the car break loose on the power brake, and then just fishtail off the line. Time: 8.792 @ 84.74mph, 60'=2.180
Run #2: This was a much better run (except for the redlight... haha); my first 7-sec pass ever. It was only 9 minutes after the first, so the engine was hot. Time: 7.980 @ 86.37mph, 60'=1.828
Run #3: This is an in-car shot with Ed riding shotgun. It was only 5 minutes after Run #2. I didn't get a timeslip, but the ET was 8.20.
Run #4: This ended up being the quickest run of the night. Time: 7.859 @ 87.72mph, 60'=1.790
Run #5: This run was 8 minutes after Run #4. As always, hot lapping steals away performance. Time: 7.979 @ 86.20mph, 60'=1.803
Run #6: This run was 7 minutes after Run #5. Even though the heat soak slowed it down, I love the way it squats on the launch on this run. Time: 8.039 @ 85.71mph, 60'=1.821
Run #7: This was after nice cool down period. This was the second best run of the night... even with a slight tire spin on the launch. If it would have hooked better, it might have run lower yet. Time: 7.890 @ 87.72mph, 60'=1.830
Ed had to leave after this run, so we didn't get any more videos (Thanks again Ed for shooting these!!). Run #7 was the last time trial before the Bracket Race started. I used the 7.890 run as my dial in for the bracket. With 30-40 minutes between runs after that, my next two ETs were 7.895 and 7.899. As I said above... this thing was deadly consistent given a nice cool down period and a decent track condition.

1/8-Mile Drags, Racelegal at Qualcomm, Jan 20, 2006
Here are a bunch of videos we shot at RaceLegal.com at Qualcomm Stadium on Friday, 1/20/06. The Satin Silver 05 belongs to Ed (msgt46270), and of course the Sonic Blue is mine.
Video #1: Don vs. Ed, Race #1. Notice that Ed had serious traction problems. The comment my wife makes to the track announcer about me being "pissed off" is because it was just a few minutes earlier that I had found out I wasn't getting the KB blower that weekend.
Video #2: Don vs. Ed, Race #2. I went red... Ed wins. Notice Donna was already worried about the amount of tread left on the drag radials. After 95 runs or so, they are now shot... new tires will be here Wednesday.
Video #3: Don kicking a Vette's butt... hehe
Video #4: This is Ed's 3rd run; after he lowered the pressure in his tires, and finally got some traction. Uhhh... I think Ed will want to talk to Donna about her commentary on this one. haha
Video #5: Donna vs. Dodge Hemi Truck with N2O.
Video #6: Again, Donna vs. the Dodge Hemi Truck with N2O. She needs to practice on her burnouts a little still.
Video #7: Donna vs. Viper (blown and N2O... this thing was fast!)
Video #8: Don vs an Olds 442... fun race, very close!! I think my wife is getting too friendly with the announcer.
Video #9: Ed's 4th run.
Video #10: Don vs. 300zx TT on N2O... it was fast too!
Video #11: Ed's 5th run
Video #12: Don vs. Ranchero (460ci engine). Bracket Race, round #1. I was dialed at 8.45, he was at 8.34. I lost by 0.02 sec.
Video #13: Donna vs. "classic" hot rod truck
Video #14: Donna vs blown SUV... sheesh!
Video #15: Donna vs. Camaro
