I bought this 'bird back in April when my 99 Saturn (also on this site, "saturn17901") just didn't fit my style anymore. Actually, I don't think a Saturn fits anyone's style. with 118,000 on the clock, it wasn't exactly a prime candidate for modifying, but I like a challenge. I started out with a K&N FIPK intake cone, and had the mufflers removed in favor of a straight pipe exhaust. Then I added a Midland CB with a PA system for no reason at all. Now, with 127,000 on the odometer, I've started to piece it together. I plan to make it more of a road course terror than a dragster, just because there really isn't a bountiful assortment of engine upgrades for the stock motor. The 4.6 provides adequate thrust as it is, so it doesn't really matter for now. I ordered a new susension setup, so I finally have begun the real modifications needed. Eibach Pro-Kit springs, with KYB gas-charged struts and shocks. Should do a lot to control the Thunderbird's enormous amount of body roll in the corners. Next, I hope to add a Superchips tuner to the list of mods, hopefully to clear the lag off the line that's been plaguing my acceleration. Eventually, I want to get rid of the crappy transmission Ford decided to put in this car. I can do a 5-speed swap, but I hear it's difficult, therefore defeating my enthusiasm for the project.
Not bad for $1200 and a Saturn, eh?

Sure it's got 127,000 miles, but one quick spin behind the wheel and you would think it's brand spankin' new, until it shifts, but that's going to be corrected soon. And I just took out the CB radio. Seriously, does anyone still use them other than truckers?

If you look closely you can see the dent behind the door, about the size of a quarter. No plans to fix it, I don't really care because I hardly ever see that side of the car.

The money shot.
