It's July 28th and after two weeks with my back out, I figured that I should get something done on the Nova. I didn't want to push my luck so I didn't try to pull the motor out of the garage. I wanted to do something easy so I started mounting the motor mounts. The passenger side mount went on without a hitch. The driver side gave me the problem. It seems the height of the bottom plate is closer to the frame on that side and the mounting bolt was too long. I will have to wait until Monday to get a shorter bolt. After that was done I started to strip the drive shaft. It was covered with mostly surface rust toward the front and a little heavier rust towards the rear. Here are some before and after pics. This was the extent of my work today. My back started aching again so I packed up and headed upstairs. I really want to have the hoist here by Wednesday to install the motor into the front clip. See you soon.
Wednesday August 1st!! Another month down the tube and the Nova is still not done. I did go down yesterday after work to install the driver side motor mount and also gave the driveshaft a fresh coat of paint. My buddy is gone until Sunday so I guess the motor will have to wait to be placed into the front clip. If all goes well I should be able to get the hoist by Next Wednesday. Then I only have to change the transmission filter and tranny pan gasket before I drop her in. My fingers are crossed.
