BRUSHED STAINLESS DOOR INSERTS
************************************************************************************************************************
Before~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After

These inserts came from our sponsor www.autobadges.com . They are made from very good, quality material. The finish is flawless.

The install was quite straight forward and easy to do. Just have to take that leap of faith to rip the old carpet from the door. LOL!

Some close ups, so you can see how the carpet sits on a hump and then tucks down in a groove.

This groove is the best place to gently insert your fingers or a screw driver if you can't grip it by hand. Only touch the carpet and gently rake it towards you. The plastic outer edge and channel will be visible after the install and you don't want to marr the surface.

If you are lucky you can then grab the carpet and begin to pull it away from the panel. I could not get my hand in enough to get a grip so I had to work with the screw driver a bit more.

The idea to create a pocket that my hand could better grip. Then I could pull the rest off by hand.

It takes a bit of effort to be sure you get the carpet off intact. You can see there is a bit of glue left behind that you must clean off.

I chose to use a razor to clean the bits off. Be careful and work the razor to the inside of the insert area. Like my second pic. I almost slipped and really cut the door panel with the razor.

Be sure to gently clean the channel of any glue debris as it will be visible. But don't scratch it, again it will be visible.

All cleaned up and ready to go.

You need to leave on the protective cover, just peel the edges up enough that they will not get any glue on them or get pinched under the lip where they can't be pulled off when you are done.

We could not find the Bulldog adhesive so I used this version PL375. Its actually a stronger grade. I tried to get enough on there without getting so much as to have it seep out the sides

Only use moderate pressure to attach the pieces. If you press hard you will dent the stainless. I used my palm flat to press the pieces. Spreading the pressure out over a greater area.

Now tape it in place to sit for 24 hours for the glue to cure. I used a combo of cardboard and tape to hold everything in place with the proper pressure to keep it pressed tight on the door panel.

The drivers side door panel was a bit tweaked so it took some effort to get the part to hold tight against the panel

To get the front to hold tight w/o denting the panel I used a larger binder clip with cardboard. The rolled edge of the binder clip was perfect. The pressure of the binder clip was actually at the channel with the cardboard spreading the pressure on the piece. It worked like a charm. No dents and the panel is tight.

Now the panels just had to sit and cure. Due to a bit of rain, I let things sit 36 hours.
Now it was time to take off the plastic...

Here are the finished pics...
