Willys JEEP CJ2A 1945(2005/6) LHD
Rebuilt, from scratch, with the popular Chevrolet 2 500cc engine, which now, has almost a 3000cc capacity, fully balanced, with forged pistons. It also has a 1900 Chevair cylinder head, giving it a higher compression ratio, (a power increase still available, with minimal spent, by upgrading the head for an specific use, torque/power, by means of valve size and camshaft) and a scarce aluminium tappet cover. It has a completely rebuilt Weber 32/36 DGV carburettor (REDLINE WEBER, the better Weber), with changed jets and a hi-flow Simota cone filter. A TNT branch is also included in the mix, together with an S/S Free-flow exhaust and a Billet box ending it off. It has a lightened flywheel, with a step cut into it, to give extra clamping force to the high spec clutch. 5-speed gearbox adapted to Jeep transfer case, upgraded rear diff and front, all breathers, from diff’s, gearbox and transfer case, are taken via flexible pipe to dashboard level, with breather filters at end to prevent dirt entering. Brand-new leaf springs, brand-new suspension design, took over a month of full-time work just to get the chassis done, shackle’s laser cut and for extreme duty. The chassis was stripped down to base, strengthened in all possible ways; all the joints are also seam sealed, to prevent moisture entry. It has shackle reversal in front (fixed in front and shackle in rear) and spring over diff. This all gives it a centre ground clearance of +/-400mm, an almost 90' approaching angle, a 80' departure angle and a 105' ramp break over point (Very short wheel base), with the new M/T 33", 12.5 tires.
Brand new, Electro-galvanized, reproduction, steel body, Dessert Storm (Beige/yellow). A whole range of Stainless Steel/ Aluminium trimmings, including S/S front bumper/nudge bar, steering column, Aluminium bonnet hinges (cost over R800 each), centre cover plate, pedals, etc. Two, comfortable, Vinyl bucket seats (grey/black [Formula Design]), with matching steering wheel, 4-point harnesses and a roll bar. Modern H4 Crystal/Diamond headlights (100w globes), with matching H4 spots (has dim and bright (130w)), a full range of Auto gauge gauges, including a new 3 3/4" rev counter, marked to 8 000rpm, not too optimistic, as it's easily revved to that mark. Space for dual fuel tanks (+- 70-80 L), only one at moment, dual lock able Jerry cans. Waterproof taillights, submerged in rear bumper. Modern, very bright, LED front indicators.
Upgraded steering box, wit new steering geometry, to eliminate wear and lighten steering.
When rebuilt rust was main concern, seeing we stay in Cape Town, less than 100m from sea, therefore everything was primed and painted with Hammerite Metal paint, all nuts, bolts and joints are protected with Copper Compound, which also helps with removal of parts with ease. The starter, upgraded alternator, Electrics, etc. are all new.
The original 6'’’ brake drums are replaced with disks up front and 10’’ drums at the rear. Brand new Master / Slave cylinder for brakes and hydraulic clutch.
With it’s suspension/ huge wheel travel/ power it is unstoppable off-road and easily outperform modern vehicles with it’s electronics, with a top speed in excess of 120km/h, locally allowed maximum speed, with confidence, very stable on and off road, especially dirt roads. It has excellent fuel economy, a pleasure to drive, currently in everyday use in peak traffic, with ease, very versatile. Daily runabout, Saturday challenge vehicle and Sunday cruiser, all in one.
The JEEP was built inside a double garage, without a rush, most parts hand made by myself.
All oils are backed up by PROLONG, the super lubricant.
It also includes a brand new, fully watertight black canopy.
It is unthinkable of the amount of power it has, with the huge, power robbing tyres. Although it should be a difficult task, to try and keep it in a straight line, with the small, "Marie Biscuit" tyres it used to come out with in the 1940's with the amount of power it has, if you would drop the clutch. The only possible way of improving it is by fitting it with a V8, but then it will be very thirsty, and almost impossible to drive economically.
It has plenty torque from idling, to right up the rev range, although most in the lower revs +/- 4500rpm, as it is a four wheel drive vehicle specially made for off road driving, the high revs really come in handy with extra high sand dunes, where normal vehicles, except very powerful V8's, can’t get to.
I have tried to get stuck with it numerous times, but were always able, to drive away, even with cross-Axel wheels in the air. It has done since rebuilt only 3100km, in testing it, although it will now get some more as I have to use it more frequently.
A showpiece, in showroom condition, but ready for any challenge. Spent way over R 150 000 just in parts, all just the best available. If I just can cover my parts costs I'll sell it, the labour I did all myself and take it as my hobby.
Want to sell, are looking to buy a 200SX, RB25DET engine swap, turbo-/supercharger, etc., for drifting/drags/circuit racing.
Offers welcome. E-mail: Jeep@motorcade.co.za
ITS OFFICALLY FOR SALE
I apologise for the picture quality, it don't do the Jeep justice, as I'm not good at taking photo's.
