Original 383 Commando with a Thermal Quad
Comp Cam (~.494 lift)
8 qt Oil Pan
Cheetah Valve Body (rebuilt 727)

No AC, Manual Brakes, Stops GREAT. =)


Brought the front wheels off the ground going into second gear (not high, about an inch or so) with a half-tank of gas, anything less it just spins.


Calculated at 23.8MPG in City.

I started the restoration allready. computer at the house is down right now, but will post pictures when back on line. Hope to be done in the spring for driving weather. The perks of living in Wisconsin. Need windshield and trim.

Also if you havent already found it check out the website C Body Drydock A wealth of info for our cars and not a better group of site members to be found anywhere. Not all caught up in there particular kink. As long as you dont bellitle people and talk trash they will do anything they can to help you out. Not saying you personally would do that but you know there are a lot of sites that are rampant with people that do. LOL.

Hey nice to see Im not the only one out there who is trying to save a VIP. Ive got a 68 2 door fastop with a 383 headers close to a magnum cam and Edelbrock single plane with Holley 650 DP. Almost got the engine ready to go in the car just waiting on $$$ to rebuild the tranny. Should have her up and runnin here in a couple more weeks. Id better Im gettin REAL tired of bummin a ride everywhere. LOL. Ill try to post a pic or two.

It has potential....wow...a 440! Try putting a little PB Blaster down the spark plug holes. enough to cover the top of the piston. let it set a few days. Get a oil pump primer too. Get the biggest breaker bar you can find. Try to turn it over with the breaker on the crankshaft bolt after couple days of the PB Blaster soaking the pistons. The H.A.M.B website has a lot of stories on getting the frozen motors to turn. My 383 Super Commando sat for 15 years and it actually wasn't froze! Good Luck!
