This fixed my problem so perfectly. Followed all your steps, and sure enough my three little prongs looked exactly like yours with the little circular cracks. Soldered em up and my ol girl runs perfectly now. Thank you so much bro for posting this. HOW you discovered this fix, I will never understand, but I sure am glad you did, and then posted such a detailed article. We had done EVERYTHING we could to try to fix it, replaced pumps, filters, coils, wires, plugs, relays, and I came so close to selling the thing. Then I found this. <3 <3 <3

Hey, that's very cool. Very glad that you found this helpful. This problem vexed me to no end, which is why I posted this. I've heard from a lot of folks that this has helped, and that's the reward. These old BMW's are really built for the long run, but you have to be ready to chase down cracked old solder joints with high-mileage vehicles.

Geerhed63 - what a super job.. my 535is died near home, thankfully, and I suspected the ecu, everything else checked ok.. using your info, found one suspected solder crack, resoldered it and.... presto, started right up. thanks!!
