PROJECT POWER RANGER
This is the humble beginning of "Project Power Ranger". I purchased this 1994 Ford Ranger Supercab for $100. It had a 4.0L V6 and a blown 5 speed transmission. The body was pretty straight except for a dent in the driver's side fender and the broken grille surround. 110 octane race fuel runs through my veins and I have to make everything my own. So, being that I had a built up 5.0L engine doing nothing on the stand, I decided it needed a new home. Hence, "Project Power Ranger" is born. The 8,000 mile 306 cu. in. engine has 10:1 compression, forged pistons, a Trick Flow Stage I cam, 1.72 roller rockers, mild port work on the E7TE heads, 70mm throttle body and EGR spacer (did I mention it's injected?), ported intake manifold, 70mm Cobra MAF sensor, and some underdrive pulleys. The motor will be backed by a Mustang Borg-Warner/ Tremec T5 5 speed transmission. I found that bit of custom work and fabrication is involved, as the V8 swap is not a bolt- in ordeal unlike a small block swap in an S10. There are many issues to be addressed with this swap, such as clutch linkage (Mustangs are cable clutch while the Ranger is hydraulic), exhaust, motor mounts, cooling system, fuel system, body clearances, and air conditioning/ heater box fitment. I would not suggest this swap to a newby or novice mechanic without LOTS of research. So, stay tuned on the build-up...
