

July 27th 2006:
This is a 68 Camaro I purchased in Phoenix AZ on July 27 2006, my second project Camaro. This is not an SS but it will be when I'm done with it. I plan to have the car media blasted and the front frame powder coated to glossy black. Then for the paint, viper red with black rally strips. For the rims and tires not sure what I want to do there, but I like the centerlines that are on it right now. In going to add a rear spoiler and front spoiler too. Im not sure if I want to put a cowl hood on it or not. Let me know what you guys think I should do, I'm open to suggestions.


The engine is the out of an 85 Iroc 350 with TPI, with a turbo 350 tranny.




Okay so its been a little over a week since I got the car. So this is what I've been doing. I got a Turbo 350 Tranny last weekend, and have started to remove the front clip so it can get powder coated. Check it out a pretty easy job, just time.




Okay so it's August 21st 2006, and I have friends who are nagging my almost everyday to post more pictures. Well I finally did something to the car to warrant a new post.


You can see that I've been working on getting the frame off the car. More work than I expected too.


Things are looking great have'nt found any surprise's yet. cross my fingers.

August 27th 2006:
This weekend I started the modifcation to the fire wall, well before I actually modify it. I need to clean and strip it. So this is what I'm doing.


Unfortunately, I found a little bit more rust! No worries very small, can cut it out and patch it.
Sept 13th 2006:
I finally got my Frame powder coated and picked up today. I think it looks really good compared to how it looked.


I think this lookes sweet, cant wait to install it back on the body of the car.


Here are some the other parts that got the treatment. I had the control arms done also, but did'nt get to pick them up cause they forgot to do them, couple more days for the control arms.


Few more shots for you guys. I got the new hardware to install the frame from Ground-Up.
Sept 17th 2006:
Well got off my lazy butt this weekend and start to grind off all the crap from the fire wall, so I can smooth it out to give it the show car quality.


Before I started to work on it, and some shots of the after!


So this is how far I got today, this was about 4 hours of work, and it looks like I have about 8 more hours to put into this. Before I feel good about it.

I started to repair some of the rust on the passenger side. Mostly the rockers and door. Pretty normal for a chevy this old.


Here are some close-ups of the rust. I'm using a mig welder Miller 130. It's working out pretty well.


More pics of the passenger side door. I hardly found any rust on the driver side though.

So I finally got some time and parts to work on the car again. This is what I got done this weekend.


I ordered a disc brake conversion kit from Ground Up and a Front end rebuild kit. So here they are.


I laid everything out to make sure I knew where everything was going, and to see if I had all the parts I needed. Found a few things missing.


I talked a friend into giving me a hand to shave the fire-wall and weld in the Factory A/C opening, I'm going with Vintage air and I wanted to put in the in-line 4 bulk head.


After welding we used some kitty hair to fill in all the holes and bumps to get a really good/clean look.


It's about 8:00PM on Sunday, this is how far we got this weekend. I think it looks really cool now.

Started to strip the paint off, took off the door to get a better reach of areas


More shots of what Im doing, I did find more rust in the rockers, so I just bought a whole new replacement rocker.

This week a friend and I have started to assemble the front end.


Good start until I read the Assembly Manual and had to drop the frame again and put the bushing in the right way.

Wanted all you guys to see the disc brake conversion.


This conversion kit I bought from ground-up is great no modz to do I had to drill out the to A-arms a bit, mostly cause the powder coating filled in the holes a bit.

I picked up my engine From Action Speed in Mesa.


Here are are a couple pics the heads and crank is wrapped in plastic cause it was raining the day I picked them up.


Here is the block, its a 4 bolt main with forged components.

My Dad was done in Mesa for Christmas, He's built SBC before and was helping me out. Glad he did cause I was making alot of mistakes.

Starting the finishing touches. I hate the chevy orange so I went with the red, same cold I had my springs done in. Should look very nice.

So alot has happen between now and my last post. Worked on the engine almost everynight after work. Just when I thought I was almost done. Noticed that the Pistons where 8th of and inch to tall. Wrong pistons for the stroker.
Well here are some pics of the firewall that I'm working on since the motor is back at the machine shop.


Second skim coat and I have more to go.


Started to prime the passenger side just to see where I need to put more coating. Looks like I have alot more work ahead of me.

Well I've been reading alot of formun post on Camaros.net and found out that I can swap my old steering box to a modern day 12:1 quick ratio power steering box. So I got all the parts and bits together and Here's the results.


Here's the Old Piece. Anyone who wants it let me know I'll sell it cheap!


Now here's the modern day ONE!


I got all new fittings and lines. Plus new pitman arm. If you want to know how to do this, let me know. Its Cheap too. I'm in this for about $300.00 that includes the gear box and pump.

Well I finally got my buddy to come help with some body work. So we started working on the rear quaters. there was so much rust around the wheel wells that I decide the replace both side to get the clean crisp edges. I bought my quater from Randy a local GoodMark dealer.


Here we go. It's a bit scary "At least for me" to cut into a car.


Well its off and looking better than I expected.


I preped the inside for rust, once's it welded back no going there again.

Well finally got more parts and time to work on the car I found a used booster and master from a Guy in Las Vegas.


Here's how it looked when I got it from the seller. I mocked it up to see how everything fit.


Well I sandblasted it and painted it more to what I wanted it to look like. I think this will look really good, when I engine in in the bay.

Well got some more time on my hands to work on the rear quaters plus a friend to help out.


Here we're cutting out the old, Boy this was hard, finding all the spot welds and getting in to some tuff areas too.


Found more rust once we cutted the outer wheel well off. Here's a few pics


Here's the new piece, we mocked it up first with the new quarter skins before we welded. I'll have some more pics of the welding.

Okay so I have time now to post some new pics, of what I've been doing the past couple of months. So here it it. So you know most of this is done by a friend that is a great body guy.

More body work being done, we got to bare metal and worked on shaving the doors too.

Now we are into First Prime, Took months to get here, but Im very happy so far with this.
