There's no problem in moding an auto. One of my buddies has a 91 TSI AWD Talon that's an auto, and the car should run 13's. Another one of my friends used to have an auto 97ish eclipse that was pretty quick and nice as hell. So if you want to put the time, money, and work into, I say go for it.
