IMBECL's 1991 Mazda Miata

IMBECL's 1991 Mazda Miata

This is the engine that powers my wee beastie. The previous owner had the vehicle modified by the Mazdaspeed "Sports Factory" in Kumamoto, Japan. The modifications include:
-Mazdaspeed (MS) Supercharger kit (Supplied to MS by Sebring)
-MS Oil cooler.
-MS Stainless steel Extractors.
-MS Brake pads (f & r).
-MS Shock absorbers.
-MS Springs (made for MS by Eibach).
-An unknown (I cant read Japanese)exhaust system with a small HKS type stainless muffler (very loud!)
Since purchasing the car I have added:
-One way valve in supercharger bypass.
-Custom stainless steel adaptor on AFM fitted with a K&N pod filter.
-Aluminium heat shield around pod filter.
-Headlight lid intake.
-Replaced 1800cc injectors with 1600cc ones (major overfueling with 1800's)
-High flow fuel pump (old one couldn't supply enough pressure for the smaller injectors).
-Stronger clutch along with a lightened flywheel.
-Hotdog style muffler and resonator added to the system to quieten it (it used to be extremely loud, making popping and crackling noises like a rally car)
-Upgraded the front brakes with HPC coated 94+ sized caliper mounts and DBA cross drilled and slotted rotors with Trust GReddy pads.
-Jackson racing boost timing controller.
It has certainly been a steep (but still enjoyable) learning curve so far.

Here is a closer look at my filter set up. It made quite a noticeable improvement when I fitted it, But a dyno run with the bonnet up made about 3-4kw more than a run with the bonnet closed. It was probably due to the small fan used on the dyno as on the open road (about 40km/h+)my digital thermometer shows the temperature at the filter never gets more than five degrees above ambient. Next job is to modify the heatshield to seal it off better and add some bonnet vents to get rid of the heat build up.
