MrMarquis's 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis

This is my 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis LS; my first car.

UPDATE: June 6, 2007

The Black Out has continued to the corner light trim in the front and the tail lights. Those were blacked out in mid April. Recently, a pair of extended chrome bumper guards were added. The Cherry Bomb has fangs!

MrMarquis's 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis FENDER SKIRT UPDATE: While in the body shop, I requested that the fender skirts be painted to match, and they installed them for me as well. The Cherry Bomb now has a slick pair of skirts. A boomerang antenna must be installed to complete the look.

MrMarquis's 1988 Mercury Grand MarquisNovember 26, 2006 UPDATE: The black out has begun. The front headlight bezels and grille have been painted with Metallic Black paint. The chrome around the taillights, as well as various other places on the car, will be blacked out as soon as I can get my hands on some spare pieces. The black sparkles when it's hit by the light; but doesn't show in the pictures. It turned out more like a very dark chrome, instead of a flat black; ALL FOR THE BETTER.

Brief History

I had been looking for a car for quite a while. I forget how many I checked out. There were a few Chevy Aveos, a few Scions, a Chrysler Fifth Avenue, a Ford Probe, a Focus...And so many more...After I had passed the driver's test on January 23, 2006, I was driving my step-dad's 1989 Marquis when I needed. And so, going to school one day on the bus, I saw this baby on the side of the road for sale, and couldn't pass it up. My long search for a car was over. I went and talked with the owner that afternoon, and bought it the next day.

Additions, Custom Work

To my surprise, the original owners of this Marquis had installed a Viper keyless entry and automatic start system. It works great; I love being able to start the car when I'm not around it. I've scared a few of my friends as well by popping the trunk open as they walk by my car, but I'm not around.

At the moment I am working on modifying the sound system. A Sony X-Plod CDX-GT100 head unit replaced the Ford unit. A Polk Audio 5 1/4" component system has been added, with the tweeters in the dash, and the woofers in the front doors. The rear deck 6" x 9"s still need to be replaced. At least two woofers with amp will be added to the trunk. I am planning on building my own sub enclosures.

The distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires are all Accel performance parts. Spark Plugs themselves are Autolite.

MrMarquis's 1988 Mercury Grand MarquisA set of Wolo Silver Streak Express DD air horns are underneath the hood, directly behind the grille. They sound awesome, and are very appropriate for the car.

Plans

I have some plans for this car. I want a dual exhaust with a 2.5" pipe, H pipe, and Flowmaster 40s. I'm going to put on some HO upgrades to boost the power a bit. Some new wheels, probably aluminums, to lower the weight. Window tint is a must. Hopefully I can get some custom emblems made here soon...And of course, various LEDs will be installed throughout the car.

Thank's man, Babyblue has a long way to come to even be close to as nice as The Cherry Bomb. I love the blacked out look and I love the way it turned out. I used 3 coats of flat black and 3 coats of clear coat. I'm gonna remove the trim from the doors to smooth out the car and the emblems are gone except for on the grill.

The farm/country pics are badass

Thanks for checkin out my Marq! Your 88 looks nice. I like what youve done with the front end. Those bumber guards look mean! Ive never seen fender skirts on one of these cars before. I dont know how many miles youve got on it but my tranny is just beginning to go out at 320,000 miles, so you can expect to be drivin that car for a long long time with regular maintenance. As long as bitches in big trucks dont keep smackin in to it! Ouch!
