October 10th 2006 - Status: Motor is toast!
Today, I officially took my car off the road to make some needed repairs. I began removing parts in preperation of removing the motor. About 5 hours in and the motor was ready to come out. Would've been a lot faster, but I took a lot apart to make plenty of room and to also do some work while the car is down. An upgraded cooling system will be in place for the new set up (even though OEM is fully capable). Plan on adding a Fluidyne radiator, and Samco rad hoses. The other hoses (power steering and minor cooling hoses) will get a fireproof hose covering.

October 25th 2006 - Status: Motor is removed and being torn down.
As it sits, the head is off, the oil pan is off - when removing the pan, I found the problem...little fragments of piston. My motor is officially being built by Tom Lesperance of Focus-Power. I chose to go with the long block option; which includes 9.0:1 Wiseco pistons, Eagle H Beam rods, machined and balanced assembly, upgraded oil pump, ARP head studs and main studs, billet main caps, a full port and polished head, etc. I am also removing the VCT (Variable Cam Timing) system in favor of twin adjustable cam gears. With this set up, at 20psi, I should see ~320hp to the wheels. Not huge power, but in a traction limited FWD SVT Focus, thats pretty damn fast. I went 13.6 on 231 wheel hp - so another 90whp should get me in the 12's.

Much appreciation goes out to:
Greg and Lawson at AEM, Kim at Rota Wheels, Tom Lesperance at Focus-Power,Ray at McNews Automotive, Glen at Steeda, William at CFM, and especially my best friend Mike for all the busted knuckles and letting me borrow "the Stranger!"
