1965 "Barn Find" Bug. It was put into a barn in southern GA in 1979 and remained there until I bought it in Jan 2006. The odometer read 11,650 miles and they are ORIGINAL as evidenced from the service receipts and Florida Department of Transportation inspection receipts. From what I understand, this car was originally a gift by VW to the Brundage family who owned Brundage Motors (now Brumos) in Jacksonville, FL. I bought it from a member of the Brundage family. Though the years in the barn preserved many aspects of the car, the original muffler rusted and has a few holes in it and the lower part of the rear apron rusted a bit. Fortunately, they are relatively easy fixes. I already have a very nice apron from another '65 donor car waiting to be installed. I also have a NOS 40hp VW muffler awaiting installation. The rest of the body is in very good shape, as are the original floor pans! This car has some really neat options like a Sapphire AM radio with an auxiliary rear-mounted speaker and fader switch located on the dash. It also has a very rare dealer installed York-Borg/Warner air conditioning system. This car is TOTALLY original and still runs on the 6 volt electrical system. It fires right up and runs turbine-smooth! I replaced the entire brake system and was very lucky to find the fuel system corrosion-free. I did nothing to the engine except clean the points, replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires. It still has the original black 6v Bosch coil (with deteriorating yellow oval Bosch sticker), points, condenser and rotor. The carb was untouched and works perfectly, automatic choke and all. Even the drive belts are the original German ones. They are in amazing shape for being so old and they show no signs of cracks. I did get a new 6 volt battery. I really love this little car and am very glad to have found it.Here are some "before" pics as well as some "work in progress" shots... If you have any very nice used or NOS parts for this type of bug, let me know via email: email@example.com There are still items I am looking for: NOS single-mount radio antenna, front and rear bumpers (these are kinda crusty), NOS German running boards with "Alpine Blue" rubber mat (kinda light turquoisey/blue/greenish), and a very nice used or NOS "101" mirror - no repros!) It will take me a while to do this one right, but it's a helluva worthy car to do it to!
