DroneInc's 1971 Datsun 510

So uh, yeah. Here is my '71 Datsun. Bought it with the swap already done... a complete junkyard swap, straight down to the extra parts laying around the engine bay. And did I mention it ran like shit? Yep. So over the last six months I've been slowly working on this. Rewired crap. Moved battery. Cleaned the intakes, changed the oil (which was complete sludge, btw - consistancy like a chocalate malt. Redid the brakes, stripped the interior. Lots of tracing/removing this-long-wire-that-goes-nowhere problems, both inside the engine bay and under the Home Depot carpet job. I had to repair the hoses to the gas tank, they were all corroded and pretty nasty. The trunk was full of fumes, and considering the reverse lights in the trunk were both A) broken and B) crossed, I'm sure glad I didn't die. Have also traced a faulty idle down to a bad fuel injector. Replaced all four for good measure. I've since run 91 and lots of fuel conditioner. Idle is coming down to normal levels.

The headers are here, as is the exhaust and the coilovers. Now I just need to find the time!

The picture above was taken a few days after I purchased it, and hey that's the first thing I bought! Go compulsive ebay shopping. And hey, check out that Kragen knock-off air filter. Previous owner apparently couldnt afford the extra $15 for a filter that isnt FLAKING AWAY INTO THE ENGINE. Jesus. Updated photos, including before/after coilovers, coming.

First though, I've noticed that I'm getting good 'ol timing chain scrape. Great! A complete timing kit is here, bought new belts and synthetic oil and a new valve gasket (I might as well replace all this crap while I'm here). Splurged on a aftermarket Unorthadox Underdrive pulley. Woot!
