Ugrade #1: FLOOR MATS

My floor mats were okay (and BMW OE), but they didn't say BMW on the driver's side, so I had to upgrade. Check out the wear on the drivers side - you'd replace these old ones too...

Interesting note: the new floor mats don't show the screws that fasten the mat to the floor, like the originals above. Instead, the screws are installed first and the mat velcros to the screw. Kind of liked the old screws, but hey, the hidden look is good too. Check out the new fasteners below...

Ugrade #2: TINT

September 13th was 740iln's Tint day. She got 35% all around. No big deal, but the State of Virginia isn't real big on 35% in front. Virginia state law dicates that the max you can have is 35% in the back and 50% in the front. Well, we like to push the limits...

Upgrade #3: XENON

Upon delivery of 740il'n, immediately took to finding out all I could about a xenon upgrade. Financially, I opted for the Xenon-filled bulbs, as opposed to a full conversion to an HID system.
In order to find a diverse choice in bulbs, I hit ebay.

The Hiper Super Plasma Xenon is what I ended up getting. I replaced the low beams first. If you look at the picture, you can see the difference in color between my xenon low and the halogen high.

Here is a pic of the xenon low and fogs...and bear in mind that this pic did not do them justice, as they are mega-white!

I spent roughly $60 for the entire set-up: Low/High/Fog. In case anyone is curious:
H1 - Low
H7 - High
H3 - Fog

Based on the new xenons, I think Chrome-lining and clear signals are in order...does it ever end??!

Upgrade #4: CHROME GRILLE

Here is a comparison of my grille, before and after...

I had posed the question asking whether a chrome kit could achieve the same look as the BMW OE chrome grille. The picture below is of an OE chrome grille from GreenOx's site.

740iln's 1996 BMW 7-Series Thanks to GreenOx for letting me use the pic.

I don't dislike the chrome kit. In fact, it looks pretty sweet in person. However, I plan on ordering an BMW OE chrome grille in the Spring.

I performed your procedure on my 1997 BMW 740iL this morning and I can now read the miles and all of the dash data with few pixels missing. Before all there was was a series of random dots. Thank you very much for your posting. Bec Becnel, Sugar Land, Texas

RESPONSE to petegrant: Pete - thx for the compliments. The pixel fix ended up being a temporary fix. BMWNA ended up replacing my dash along w/many others here in the USA. Last I heard, BMW UK was not so cooperative. Best of luck! - 740iLn

Your pictorial about fixing the pixels worked a treat for me. I had wondered whether to give it a go and it was pretty straightforward overall. You pictorial was a great help too. You dont happen to know if it will work on the missing pixel issue for the temperature/air conditioning problem I also have? I'm only two weeks into my 7 series August 95 and am loving it so far. Thanks again from Manchester, England. Peter G
