Blown big end bearings 3 times, melted the side of a piston once, blown a hole out the bore once, shot a conrod out the engine once, broken timing chain twice (once because a rocker arm broke and wedged in the cam), and rebuilt the head from leaning out once. LOL. No more SR20's thx. White Silvia was original car, then reshelled running gear into the black chassis.
I started drifting in Melbourne mid 2002, first drift competition finsished 2nd in a friend's 180sx (JMS Drift Day #3, Pt Gawler 2003). Grabbed a first place at Easternats Drift comp (2004, Sandown), and followed up with a 2nd place at the inaugral "G1" drift comp at Mallala (2004).
Pulled out of competition for the next 2 years, focusing on drift demonstrations/event management at various tracks around Australia, including the street track at Indy on the Gold Coast (2005).
After numerous mechanical woes (see above), I decided to install a 1jz-gte engine (93 jzz30 Toyota Soarer). This engine is unbelievable!! Perfect for drifting (especially drift battles) with torque comparable to a v8, and response comparable to a naturally aspirated engine, with a barely noticiable weight difference (vs Sr20det)!! I'm sure the response will suffer when the stock turbos are binned, but then I can put those 275 Neova Advan rubber on the rear and get some serious speed!!
Current power figure is 190kw at the wheels.
In the next 6 months here are my intended modifications:
Practice, practice, practice!!
Enjoy the webpage, and feel free to sign the guestbook if you have any comments or questions.
Cheers,
Trav Dunstan
