My original plan for amps was to go small, efficient and easy to remove. I had my eye on Alpine PDX when I came acrossed a good deal on a couple Diamond Audio D9 800.4 so at that point the small and efficient idea went out the window(with my spare tire to fit them!) and I slapped these puppies in each with their 125 amp fuses built in and then shortly after added a 200A alt..... I have both amps running in standard 4 channel mode, one that is running the 4 - MB Quart QM92.3 8 inch woofers, and the other that is running the bi-amped diamond audio hex three-ways. For rear fill I am using the rear audio fill(RAF) output on the hex cross-overs to drive some diamond 4 inch speakers that will be mounted to the top of the woofer enclosure. The combination of multiple small woofers fed plenty of clean class A power, and the bi-amped 3 ways gives plenty of head-room to keep me smiling. All the hard work was worth it.
I used 1/4" MDF and fiberglass to make the base of the rack. I had to modify the mounts on the amps a little to get them to fit down far enough in the well so it took a little bit of work to make sure they were mounted solid. I covered the rack in felt to make sure that there would be no rattles as well as to make the rack dissappear behind the amps, it is not meant to be seen. I have designed the amp rack so that I can easily take it in and out of the car for days I want to go to the track. There are 2 hrns, 6 rca's and 3 power connections that I made easy to get to so that I can disconnect them in only a few seconds. The ground connections also do double-duty to keep the rack securly where it belongs. It only takes a few moments to disconnect everything and once everything is disconnected 2 people can easily lift the rack out. As it is the rack and amps probably weigh around 40-45 lbs and the woofer enclosure with the 4 cross overs and the rear speakers is probably closer to 50 lbs. All of this can be easily disconnected and pulled out if I am going to the track or if I am going to park it for a while and do not want it stolen.
here is a shot with the rack and cover in place. I tried to copy the GT logo that was new to the 94 as best as I could.
And for a little bit of "bling" I again added leds to highlight the amps and to catch the logo I will etch into the plexi. I can't take pics in the dark worth a darn, it looks better in person.........
Here are the connections that I made to be able to be quickly disconnected so that the rack can be removed. I had to solder two hrns's, one for each amps output as well as remote turn on(2 - 9 pin hrns's). The power wires ring terminals are easy to remove with wing nuts, and the 6 channels of rca's are all next to each other. The ground connections are not shows as they do double duty to secure the amp rack. All speaker wires have been protected with tech flex.
