now to continue the stereo project I finally got ahold of a bulk pack of dynamat. I was able to cover the spare tire well where the amp rack will be going, as well as both doors inside and out. I have a couple more sheets left before I am ready for a 2nd one... I cut a piece of the mat into 6 inch strips and worked them inside of the door. I was able to get them in high enouch to help tie the braces on the interior of the door with the outer door panel. 5-6 pieces were used in each door and they made a hell of a difference. I also covered the inside of the panel with a solid piecs to help to keep the plastic panel from rattling, as well as to keep exterior road noise out. The doors are rock solid now and make a easily distinguished "thump" rather then a "click" when you knock on them.
Since this project I have found an alternative to mat called second skin. I covered the floor of my interior with it and I will not be using anything else on any of my personal vehicles. The rubber as well as the foil are thicker allowing it to work into grooves and corners much better.
I also built some baffles to mount my 6.5 in the 6 x 8 holes. I used a router to copy a combination of the shapes of the factory speakers and the grill from the 6.5's. I show how to build these on my trucks page if you want to know how. I used some stiff tupperware as enclusures and further stiffened them up on the inside of the enclosure with some dynamat. A few staples and some caulking to seal it and finally a coat of paint and they look and sound perty.
Over all the doors do not have ANY rattles now and it is quieter inside. This will be a good thing as I just bought a side exhaust system so I will need a little more noise reduction in those areas. I will move on to the kick panels for the 3 way hex's and then probably on to the rear deck. Somehow in the middle of this I will try to get the side exhaust repaired(some cracks in the side skirts) as well as painted so that I can put it on but I will be lucky if it is on by christmas to be honest
I bi-amped the 3 ways with one of the D9 800.4 that I had so that they have more power then they will need. When I first powered the sytem up I noticed that the drivers side 6.5 was not working so I pulled it out and fount a loose wire on the woofer. When I connected the speaker it powered up and started playing and I was then able to load it into the baffle/enclosure and was suprised the difference the enclosure made but I was getting noise from the same 6.5's that I could not seem to fix. I After some troubleshooting I realized that the noise was the air escaping between the woofer and the enclosure which was easily fixed with the foam rings that came with the speakers. Now they rock anything under 400 hz and are solid. I used threaded insterts and some 8/32 hex screws to secure the speaker to the baffle to ensure a tight fit and can be be easily removed from the baffle.
