1986 Yamaha FZX700 Fazer

Scottys89's 1986 Suzuki LJ80

This is my 1986 Yamaha FZX 700 Fazer. It was made in this configuration (700cc) for only 2 years, due to Harley-Davidson attorneys lobbying in Washington to create a limit on the number of japanese motorcycles shipped into this country at 750cc or larger. The 700 cubic inch engine just skirted under the legal limit to allow it in, and it was still plenty of horsepower (68) for most 'Naked Bike' enthusiasts.

I bought it for $400 bucks from a local owner, who had put 44,000 miles on it and had let it's condition deteriorate. I spent the winter last year going through it, replacing the running parts like the chain, tires, brakes, plugs and by fixing the clutch.

After I had it running well, I stripped off all the removable parts like the tank, fenders and side covers and had them painted jet gloss black imron, then I did the paint work on the smaller parts like the engine valve covers, calipers, frame and bolt heads. I used scotchbrite pads and polish on the rims and they came out real nice.

The bike is wickedly fast and sounds amazing. I never fail to get comments from people who see it. This is one of Yamahas best looking motorcycles and was ahead of it's time.

I sold this scooter for 2600 bucks to a guy who really wanted it. I miss it sometimes, but I went out and bought a 94 Honda XR650L Enduro. Those pics are now posted.

Ok Everybody, Here's the deal: I got the headlights off of Ebay. They were made for a Harley, but what the hell, it's just wiring. I took my tester and matched up the hots until it worked. I mounted it to the bracket just below the stock headlight and it came out bitchin'. As to the engine paint, nothing fancy, just some high-heat gloss black. Good luck with your bikes, stay safe and keep the rubber side down! Scotty

Awesome job on the Fazer! Very nice touches done with class. Can you tell me how you worked out the dual headlight system you have on the Fazer and where might I find the parts to do that to my Fazer?
