Item Description:
This CA18DET is one of the best running I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). CA's are better suited for sustained high-rpm than SR20's, and achieve better fuel economy as well. This engine is in great condition, and the rest of the car is well suited to match.
I have put a fair amount of time into making this the cleanest and most reliable CA18DET powered S13 in the NorthWest, and I'm pretty sure I've succeeded.
**********NOTE************* I have removed the following items from the car:
-3" Kakimoto exhaust
-Enkei wheels w/ tires
-B&M short throw shifter
If you are interested in this car, please read the description thoroughly as I have spent some time making sure that it is as accurate as possible.
Car
-1989 CA18DET powered 240sx hatch. Brandywine. 156k miles on chassis, 78k on motor.
Drivetrain
160whp and 154lb-ft torque
-78,000 miles on engine
-New Timing belt, Water Pump, Valve Cover Gasket, Front and Rear main seals and a host of other items
-Stock boost (7psi)
-Super Clean inside and out.
-Stock sidemount with guard and all plumbing
-Custom hybrid T25 turbo (it's a secret, I will only tell the buyer what it is)
-Transmission makes NO NOISE and shifts smoothly
-Stock clutch with plenty of life
-Factory VLSD in good working order. Quiet, and recently serviced.
Suspension
Less than 1,000 miles on aftermarket components
-RSR springs on Tokico HP shocks
-Tein inner and outer tie rod ends w/ spacers (super tight turning radius)
-Many of the bushings have been replaced and/or lubricated
-New tranny mount, fairly new motor mounts
Body
-Original Brandywine paint in good condition
-Falken Ziex tires with about 85% life left
-NO Sunroof
-Crack along passenger base of windshield (almost not noticeable)
-2 smal impact points on windshield, no evidence of spreading
-A few small dents and scrapes, most noticeably on the left rear and right front
-Some rust under the factory spoiler, and on the rear tail garnish. Not bad at all.
Interior
-Black leather interior (not factory, but not a shabby job)
-Black dash and panels
-Sony Xplod CD stereo
-Stock speakers
-Manual Mirrors, Windows, and Locks (The light base model)
-NO Sunroof!
-Very clean nterior with 2 exceptions:
1)Crack and hole on the dash, probably from a guage that was mounted above the instrument cluster and then removed haphazardly
2)Tear on the back and bottom of driver's seat, not noticeable with the seat covers I have on
-Skyline floor mats
-Passive Restraint seat belts disabled (Requires manually buckling in. I prefer this over the "stranglers")
-All guages and controls function perfectly (even the dome light, cigarette lighter and glove box light)
Other Modifications
-Aforementioned custom turbo
-Blitz II turbo timer / boost guage
-NGK Iridium Heat range 6 plugs
The Exceptions
Things that work on this car that don't usually work on other S13's
-Headlights are aimed properly
-Hatch pops up as it should, and stays up on the struts
-1 key for all locks and the ignition
-All the external and internal lights work
-All the guages work (even the check engine light is wired in)
-The Butterfly actuator system is hooked up, enabling decent cold running and low end torque on the CA18DET. No one ever wires this in, just me!
-Runs good cold!
-Good fuel economy (20+mpg city)
-Passes emissions fine
-The steering wheel, shift boot, and shifter are all in very nice condition with no tears or rub-off marks
The "bad"
-Above mentioned crack and pockmarks in the windshield
-Above mentioned dents and rust (see pictures)
-Residual tint on the back hatch
-Aftermarket molding that was then removed. Left behind an outline and small holes.
-Could use an alignment, as steering wheel is not centered and a very slight tug to the right. $60 fix.
-ARC blow-off valve does NOT come with the car. Sorry, not even a possibility.
-.......that's it!
Overview
This is an awesome running car. It's specific horsepower is more than an SR20DET or an RB20DET. I am selling it because I have another project S13, and this car is going to finally pay off all my student loans.
I mentioned before that this has a special turbo, the result is good spool (starts at 2200rpm, full boost by 3100rpm) and decent high end. Stock flywheel horsepower for a CA18DET is 178, this just did 160whp (which translates to 190 flywheel horsepower) at stock boost and with a sidemount. I have never turned the boost up, but I am confident that this can make 200whp with a front mount intercooler and 12-14psi.
One of the pictures is the dyno chart on a Mustang dyno, with my CA18DET in green and in red is a nearly stock S13 SR20DET at 7psi with N/A cams (longer duration). While the SR wins on the high end (as well it should), notice the power below 5,000rpm is nearly identical. This engine has at least as much potential as it's younger brother (the SR20), but you'll be into it for less.
