My wife and I did a body-off resto on this and initially kept the the original 170 ci 85 hp flat-head 6, 3 speed manual trans w/ overdrive. We showed it like that for about a year. Then I decided it needed more power...

It still looks the same as it appears in the pictures, (clutch pedal and column shifter still there) but under the hood there's a GM performance zz4 small block chevy (355 hp 405 lb ft Torque) bolted up to a 700R Trans and mated to a 8" Ford diff with 3.80:1 gears. Now we don't feel the least bit intimidated getting on So. Cal Freeways.

What a magnificent Stude. I love those cars. It must realy move with the new engine huh? Did you do the motor yourself? Where did you find the car? Was it in decent shape when you got it? At least cars don't rust by you. I'm in New Jersey and it's a different climate over here. I was just in LA 3 weeks ago, I love it, but I can do without the traffic. If you get a minute check out my '72 Cougar all original down to the factory paint. Vote on my daunting question...thanx

Your Stude looks great! the Tail lights on mine are obviosly modified to look like fins, the lenses are off a 1954 Stude sedan.
