Hi folks, guys, gals, radio pals, & all of you out there in the never-never land of the 'net! These pages will showcase and run through a lot of step-by-step of my competition system in the grocery-getter :) I don't have the usual whole-car shot and row of pics of the outside from every angle - you all know what a Camry looks like :) I bought this car from my sister and have no plans what-so-ever to rice it up or go anything beyond the OEM look on the exterior outside of having tinted my windows, perhaps a set of rims some day down the line but for the most part I do not wish to attract attention to my ride for sake of remaining stealth as to what's inside... It looks plain and I like it that way, I had a 89' CRX that was slammed and drew enough attention for it to get broken into twice. Word of the wise in that regard - don't boom in hang-outs, keep it real low around your neighborhood... chances are that when you get your sh*t jacked it was someone who knows you and what you've got.
With all that said, I'll get on with what you came for :) I do all of my own work, have been installing for quite some time now, a never ending learning process. The basic run-down of what's what is as follows:
Alpine 7389 h/u
NEO 35 mp3 player (40gb hard drive)
Carver Windows center channel processor
Memphis Studio 6.5 component set
Image Dynamics horns
Memphis Studio 5x7 set (kick panels)
Memphis 3 channel 7 band Parametric EQ
Memphis Belle amp (75x4, 1000x1 hybrid amp)
2 Memphis HPO 12's (transmission line enclosure)
Optima Yellow Top battery
2 Memphis 1 farad capacitors
DEI alarm w/ remote start
Now image all that with a stealth but sweet install :)
I'll start with the sound deadening, I used an entire 30'x36" roll of a roofing material called 'Peal and Seal'. This stuff is practically identical to Dynamat Extreme or the popular Raamat which is popular in the forums. The entire trunk, trunk lid, side panels, & doors are done with that. The doors are done on the inner and outer skin. Next in combination to the peal and seal is a product you can find readily available @ Home Depot, floor underlayment. You buy it in large rolls, cut to size easily w/ scissors and spray glue into place. It is a soft neoprene type material that provides sound absorbtion and kills resonance, used in combination on top of the peal and seal the results are downright awesome. Did the roof of the car w/ underlayment, been on there for abot 10 months now w/ no problems having industrial spray glued it in place. On the floor pans and under the rear seat I used an open cell flat foam sheet material (also found @ home depot) that is superior in sound absorbtion and works wonders for road noise. End result is approx $200 in material and a dead quiet car with lots of labor that comes along with any type of sound-deadening... Here's a shot of the driver's side door:
