I bought this car from Westminister SC. In Sept 2005, I looked along time for one in this good of shape.
The guy had it listed as a parts car.
Everyone wants to know why a mercury Capri?
Well every since I first saw them come in on the car carriers in Charleston in 1979 Ive wanted one. They have character/ style, and why more people dont build or restore them I'll never know.

I was going to wait until I completely finished it to put it on car domain but just could not wait any more.
I have some pics on here now taking you up to the point that I have it now.
The car has been at paint for one month and I cannot wait to pick it up.I will post those pics as soon as I get it back.

When I brought this RS Capri home it was a straight 6 with an automatic, Famous red interior and very badly faded paint.

I started taking it apart praying not to find any surprises.
The car really turned out to be very solid, floor pan on drivers side was not even cracked.

I just bought this car to fix up a little to drive and enjoy, but the more things happened the more I relized it was turning into a show car. I have done all the work myself except now because it is being painted. (I didnt want to attempt that)
I sandblasted almost all of the car that I could without warping the rest I had to strip. every bolt has been removed and painted.
I even painted and cleared the reinforcement bumpers.(I know)
I just want to know that this car is done right.

The suspension I gave alot of thought to. I was going to put all aftermarket under it but decided that these were mods I could do later and that I wanted to just get it back together.
So I used factory upper and lower arms with an 8.8 373 gear rearend. new bushings and all from a Ford Racing.
On the front I did not want lowering springs, I like a car to set up off the wheel not the wheel setting in the fender well.
I used high performance rack and steering and struts upgraded springs and a-arms, changed the k-member out of a 85 GT mustang.

I have not touched my motor(351W). It was rebuilt by a very good friend of mine a couple of years ago but really needs some TLC.
I plan on powder coating block, changing Intake and carb and of course dressing it up. I have a T-5 trans out of a 87 GT.

This was the day I took my car to paint hve not seen it since. 5/10/2006.
It should be done soon and I will post those pics as soon as I can.

I added the following pics of my car that I had painted back in May of 2006.
When I got the car back I covered it up and did not touch it. The paint itself is pretty good it was the body work I was a little disappointed in. Sorry the pics are not clear just really aggravated that dark dark day!!!!!Restored81's 1981 Mercury Capri

Well Christmas and Dave Ramsey has sorta put the brakes on the project for me right now, but there is good news I will be debt free to have good resources to work on my project. Fall 2006.

Fall 2008. Well after almost two years of my car sitting in the garage like the previous pics I have started completing it.

Man this crap sure does suck up the money, but I am so so close to completing this car. I will be updating this page often now as I hope to finish this project by spring.

I have some new pics now but will posting better ones shortly. Thanks for looking and taking an interest in my car.

Putting the dash back in, have motor and tranny back in and new carpet installed, most of my parts are ordered to pretty much finish the car for the exceptions of odds and ends. I will be posting more pics as things progress.

Fall 2008 Nov, 22. Update but no pics yet, I have not had time. just got my wheels and tires in its going to make a big improvement, wow they are nice FR500s 17x9s, trust me I will be posting pics as soon as I change out the rear axles.

New update as of Jan 13, 2009

Well I have got my axles and spindles changed out and my wheels on. I have also finished all my brakes.

Now its just the little things to finish up before I send it back to paint. I will update when I finish up the motor which should be but a couple of weeks more. Thanks for looking.

April 15 2009,

Well I have it running, my brakes are done but the bad heatercore set me back a little on time and lets face it I hated taking out the dash again, so I have been putting it off.

I thought I would put a before and after pic on here to show under the hood. I think I will be adding to this car as long as I own it. There are still alot to be done under the hood but I would like to be able to drive it a little for a change first, it has been 5 years and I never thought I would even get to this point because of the money. I have been doing alot of salvage yard walking and I still have another paint job to lay on it. But I am getting there slowly!!!!!

Just wanted to add a couple of night pics. I have the exhaust and all the lights done. just waiting to find a painter at this point. I will be posting some day pics soon.

Sept 9 2009  I took it to get it appraised and aligned. I think I am going to forget about the second paint job for now and just enjoy the car. So I am putting all the trim back on and will post the pics when its finished. I have a few bugs to smooth out but all in all it runs and drives great.
