I bought this sierra as a daily driver a few months back. It ran well at the time but has slowly gone down hill over time. Last week I discovered that it would no longer run due to a stuffed carby and a blocked cat converter. So I decided to chuck the carby motor in favour of a 2004 model Jimny twin cam motor and gearbox. I have fitted both the new engine and box and will have it running by this weekend, so pics yet to come.

In this pic you can just see the hard torneau cover I have made for the rear. It is completely sealed and lockable, and I have welded a lower wall into the cab just behind the seats to stop people from getting into the boot via the soft top cab.

I have also chucked the rear tailgate as it was caved in by the previous owner. I folded up a sheet metal gate with a sunken number plate and led tail lights. The new tailgate is welded in, so it cannot be opened.

Also a new rear bar withtow hitch receiver is under construction, as are some sliders/ sill protectors ( similar to the shrockworxs ones).

Pics up soon.

gday champ. Im interested in your DOHC jimny motor. Were did you get it fitted? How much was the switch? Has it been worth it? and any other info on the switch that you think i should know. Im at the point that im looking everywere for info on sierra engines switches. Im trying to find the best for cheap. All your info will be much appreciated.

There are a few mods required, but I had it fitted in a day. Wiring is the biggest issue. The jimny motor from the 2004 model is far superior to the standard sierra motor. It is a completely new engine which is twin cam with variable valve timing, multipiont fuel injection and a 16valve head instead of the athsmatic standard 8valve head. I also fitted the gearbox because the original is not compatable with this new motor.

thanks for the comments.

Hey mate! Nice Zook! Thats a good idea putting a Jimny motor in it. Would you have to make alot of modifications to the engine bay for the new motor? Are the jimny motors just as good as the original Sierra motor are they still a 1.3ltr? Anyways good luck with it mate! have a good one!
