I've done extensive research into the history and lineage of the chassis in question. first introduced to the japanese market in 1979 as a coupe, and as the third incarnation of the silvia, it also marks the introduction of the gazelle model name. the hatchback enters the line up 8/79. it arrived in north america in 1980 as the 200sx and remained in production until 1983. mexico's s110 sakura remained in production until 1986 according to my friend ville. my hatch was born in late '79 and was #2444 off of the assembly line.
it sports a kamei lower front air dam spoiler made specifically for the s110, possibly the last one in existence. this one sat hidden for years inside a german warehouse. many ask why the car is not just called the s11? as that would be the logical chassis # coming after s10. s11 is actually the name for a rotory powered silvia using the s110 chassis and a mazda 12a clone motor. the s11 silvia was short-lived, and the s110 itself was replaced mid '83 by the s12. the last of the s110's (the RS) featured a twin cam fj20e, the same heart shared by the dr30 skyline. the rare 240rs had a carbeurated n/a fj20e bored to 2.4 making roughly 200hp.
after months of searching yahoo auctions jp, I located and aquired correct era nissan silvia lse-x badges for a nice price with some help from a friend in japan. thanks again neal! these rear badges are circa 1981.
a one-off custom rear aero sits atop the deck lid and enhances the natural flow of the body lines. I've removed the rear wiper and intend to shave it completely once I get to the bodywork. I love the s110's swooping angular body lines, especially of the hatchback model. I wouldn't mind having a coupe also though.
one-off custom molded fiberglass sideskirts set this s110 apart from others. a modest drop is provided by a set of lowering springs and kyb gr-2 shocks/struts, giving it an aggressive stance and appearance with improved handling. I may attempt to retrofit 240sx front brakes/suspension and hubs with the intention of running coilovers.
* edit - new wheels on page 1 * the polished 15x7 +23et krager 5 spoke wheels I'm running up front, will soon be replaced by 15x8 +14et SSR star formula reverse mesh to match the -5et rears already on the car. as you can see, the rear fitment is excellent. the s110 features an h165b type rear differential with a solid axle. there are not many options but I'm exploring them anyway.
