This car came into my hands in March of 2003 and was my first car. Use it every day to go up and down to work.
Initially it looked like it did in the first picture. As I was never a great fan of Saabs I was not all to pleased about getting this car (it was a hand me down if you will). After driving it for a couple months though I became very attached to the car and its quirky design.
Over the last three years I have made quite some modifications too make the less acceptable features (in my opinion) more pleasant to the eye. I was never a fan of the flat front lights or the huge bumpers 80's bumpers so I decided they needed to go. After some research I found out that it was actually very simple to change the design to the post face lifted version of the 900 (post 1987 - actual steal work is identical). I Simply ordered some new front and rear side skirts and bumpers, new front head lights, grill, head light wipers and indicators and after a days hard work of rewiring and drilling and bolting I was able to make my 1982 Saab 900 look exactly like a 1987-1993 model.
After these modifications I had the engine reconditioned (old rough lady used to drive it) and then also had the car completely stripped down repainted, debadged and had a new roof lining installed.
The engine is no marvel, could be faster. It had currently a 120 brake horse power 2 leter machanically fuel injected engine. A simple design (none of the mass amounts of tubing and electronics of the later turbo models) but all the same very reliable and I easily cruise down to the south of Portugal at 100 mph.
There are many many more things that I have done furthuring this, i.e. the sound system (ipod video installation / subwoofer etc., new tyres and other small modifications which I am still progressing on. Over all what began as a hand me down has become a passion that I still will continue to feed.
More pics to come soon.
