*****Check out this GTO forum site!!!!

*************Origens of the name GTO:
The GTO was the brainchild of Pontiac engineer Russell Gee, an engine specialist, and Pontiac chief engineer John De Lorean. Shane Wiser was the first to think of the idea of the GTO. In early 1963, General Motors management issued an edict banning divisions from involvement in auto racing. At the time, Pontiac's advertising and marketing approach was heavily based on performance, and racing was an important component of that strategy. Jim Wangers proposed a way to retain the performance image that the division had cultivated with a new focus on street performance. It involved transforming the upcoming redesigned Tempest (which was set to revert to a conventional front-engine, front transmission, rear-wheel drive configuration) into a "Super Tempest" with the larger 389 in³ (6.5 L) Pontiac V8 engine from the full-sized Pontiac Catalina and Bonneville in place of the standard 326 in³ (5.3 L) Tempest V8. By promoting the big-engine Tempest as a special high-performance model, they could appeal to the speed-minded youth market (which had also been recognized by Ford Motor Company's Lee Iacocca, who was at that time preparing the Ford Mustang).

The name, which was DeLorean's idea, was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, the highly successful race car. It is an acronym for Gran Turismo Omologato, Italian for homologated for racing in the GT class. The name drew protest from purists, who considered it close to sacrilege.

The GTO was technically a violation of GM policy limiting the A-body intermediate line to a maximum engine displacement of 330 in³ (5.4 L). Since the GTO was an option package and not standard equipment, it could be considered to fall into a loophole in the policy. Pontiac General Manager Elliot "Pete" Estes approved the new model, although sales manager Frank Bridge, who did not believe it would find a market, insisted on limiting initial production to no more than 5,000 cars. Had the model been a failure, Estes likely would have been reprimanded. As it turned out, it was a great success.

Then in 2004 GM decided to re-release the Pontiac GTO, this model came with a 5.7 liter V8 with an option of 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. To many of the GTO fan base the new car came off as a under designed Holden (and Australian motor company) in fact it is based on the car called the Monaro. And to many this could not be tolerated.

However, in my opinion they must not have driven the right car. In fact if anyone really took the time to get behind the wheel of new GTO they would understand the cars potential. Yes it needs a little work on things like a stiffer suspension, but those are easy fixes and are fairly inexpensive. All in all the car is a great driver’s car and I have no complaints buying one.

***NEWS***

Most recently I replaced the stock air intake with a K&N Aircharger. This new system allows an increased air flow, so much so that K&N guarantee that is will add 18.6 hp at the wheels not the flywheel.....However i really need to get it to a dyno to realy see how much becaues I (nor should you) really believe this. This means that is adds around 25 hp, brining the sum total to 375. (Not Possible in my opinion). Maybe it meant (it may be a type-o) but maybe it means 18.6 at the flywheel. The installation was simple, possibly a little tricky for someone new to their car, or just someone with little experience. It is wise to have helpe installing/holding some of the parts necisary, also be carefull not to damage the vital sensors like the air flow sensor, and the air temp sensor. Check it out at Page 4: Future and recent engine mods

1/17/07: Well its happened, my bigest fear of owning a car that is so wonderfull. It got taken away. After a heavy rain i found that there was a leak in the body work. and the carpets and flooring of the GTO was soaked with water. So its now at the shop geting some much needed medical attention from the warenty department. Tear* i will miss her while she is away.

1/26/07: Today I was reading through my messages and all my posts, and I realized that I claim somethings that not many people belive. So I thought it would be good to inform the uninformed. A couple of summers ago I was able to take a Skip Barber racing school. Thats was a fantastic three days. Yes it was first Three days, its a series of sessions. The first session was three days, the next was two days, and then test day. After its all said and done you will (if you pass) recieve your amature racing liscens. Its alot of fun and really worth the money. So there is my verification of the the phrase "verteran racer"

2/24/07: I took my GTO in for some repairs at the dealer (door seals were not...well sealing), but before I took it in I thought it would be a wise dissision to look for any more problems. This is when I found that my front tires were rubbing on the front strut towers. Major bummer! I just baught new tires and they are already bald, on under 1,000 miles on them. Danm. But thats not were things get bad. I then get to pick the car up, and they told me they found nothing wrong with the front struts....even thought I saw the rub marks. So I took her home, I then wanted to see if they even checked the front end....so I tryed to take off the tires. They hadent even been taken off! This really got me mad. So the first thing I did was drive right back to the dealer and let them have a piece of my mind. So now they are checking it again to see if there is anything they can do. Lets hope you can gentlemen because your not dealing with a idiot....well complete idiot. OH and they forgot to replace some parts on the car. This made me really mad, but thats for another day.

Finally decided on the tire to go with. I figured I would go with a tire that gave the GTO's their signature mascot the tiger, from the tires known as tiger paws. I decided to go with Generals. See the pictures on

Here are some pictures I just decided to take no particular reason.
