Sorry I havn't been posting alot of pics but have been remodeling my basement and not getting much time to work on this project...
I picked up this plastic bumper on the side of the road and thought it might be different...a Jeep front bumper being modified to an Astro. I cut the plastic bumper into 3 pieces as it was to narrow to fit over existing metal bumper. Then had to cut the metal bumper so the plastic bumper pieces would fit over it.After the pieces were positioned I used rivets to hold them in place. I Re-enforced the metal bumper with angle and flat steel, spray foam and fibre glass filled the gaps.
I'm rebuilding the frontend and since I'm getting rid of the old grill and headlight rings I Added steel to the corners to fill in where the directionals were. Using 3/4in. conduit I built a frame for the new grill I am going to build
I added a piece of conduit across the middle to connect the two sides together then welded body steel over the framing and gave it a quik skim of fibreglass.
I was told by a friend that I should do the flip hood like on my 1st Safari (Boop 1),so off I went to the wreckers and picked up a hood flip hinge off of a later model Oldsmobile. I figured if I'm gonna do it I should do it right. Mind you I needed to tear the hinge system apart and remodify it to fit and work properly. The 1st van I did I made the hinges out of flat steel it worked but it shifted from side to side when opening and closing.
