This was my 2nd car. I bought it for $1600 with 86,000 miles when I was 17 yrs old. The car had original GT interior (black w/stainless trim and both upper and lower consoles). The 390GT engine and the rest of the drivetrain was all stock as well. A previous owner had done extensive body mod's to it though. Molded in fender flares, fiberglassed Shelby brake scoops, sunken antenna, shaved door handles, locks, and various other trim. The paint had been beautiful at one point but by the time I got it it was on its way out.
A year into ownership the valvetrain developed issues so that was all I needed to make a few little changes.
I had the heads shaved and completely gone through, added a Comp Cams 280H magnum, changed the valvetrain to the 428 adjustable set up, my cousin loaned me a 427 med-riser dual 4bbl intake with a pair of 600 Holleys on it(he said I could run it until I got tired of it and then he wanted it back... it lasted about one summer before being replaced with a single Holley 650 dbl pumper).
Next I added an L-88 Corvette hood scoop and had the whole thing painted "bright dark blue starfire metallic" with white C-stripes.
I kept the car as my daily driver for about 5-6 years but after being plagued with clutch linkage issues, going through a couple of 9" pumpkins, and finally something in the block started tapping... I decided I needed something more dependable to get me to my new job and traded it straight across for a '77 Monte Carlo that started up and ran everyday.
That Mustang is the only car I've owned in 26 years of car ownership that I miss to this day. Sigh...
