Fun at my favorite track Pacific Raceways
It was back in Oct '04 before I got my S2000. I had always wanted to see how my BMW could do on the track, but every time with track opportunity, my miata always won my vote. This was the only time I did not have to worry about it.
The setup was the same as always -- full suspension and stock hp except cone filter.
As usual, any car I bring out to PR my favorite track I can turn respectable lap times. This time was no exception. As usual, people came over after sessions to see what's under the hood in order to keep up with the P-cars laps after laps. My 130rwhp normally aspirated miata with many power mods had always been a good excuse. Now with my otherwise-stock powered slower BMW with no excuse, I just loved the comments -- "but you have a cone filter"!
With well-tuned full suspension on the longer wheelbase (compare to miata) car, I found it extremely stable in and out of corners. It was so stable that I was very confident pushing the braking points and use some good amount of trail-braking to improve lap times. In doing so, I wore down one front pad (from more than 50% left before the day) to the backing plate
and left tons of brake dust on the wheels.
Check out my fastest lap in-car video here. Just 1 second slower than my faster miata. That was my very first and only time I've run this car on the track.
