This page will be dedicated the the 98 Z my dad has helped me work on for the last several months.
I bought the car wrecked with no prior knowledge of how it runs or if it will run, it has an LS1 with an A4 transmission. - only mod to my knowledge is Magnaflow exhuast with dual outlets -not dual exhaust.
The car is looking alot better now, these pictures are in Strasburg where i picked the car up.
Got it all washed up, put a used bumper cover and a used rear skirt on, the other side has a quarter welded in and i have cleaned the inside along with installed a pioneer p77deh 1/2" :) My dad has helped me a TON with this car so its been a great summer. When i got the car home the drive shaft had been pulled out of the transmission, the rear end didn't sit right pushed too far back and the front end was smashed in on one wheel. I took it to a local shop where they put it on the frame rack to find out .. The FRAME was not harmed :) They replaced a Front lower Control arm so the front wheel was inline. I also took the driveshaft to a company where to made sure it was balanced and in good shape. My dad and I replaced a trailing arm going from the rear to the front which was holding the rear in place, this brought the whole rear end forward and then we also replaced a spring in the rear that had been destroyed from the wreck. Next i replaced a rear driveshaft seal in the back of the transmission, we flushed the tranny and refilled it, did an oil change, i took out the seats and cleaned the interior by hand. I wired in my new stereo, swapped wheels from my 96 camaro onto it - i liked them better at the time now I want something different. Then drained the rear end and re filled it and put a new gasket in, *making sure the gears were stock*. My cruise control lines needed to be tightened so i could use cruise, and now its been driving down the road for almost 2 months. We also replaced the door on the drivers side with a different one in better shape.
I also did new iridium spark plugs, and ran some engine cleaner through the motor- don't know if it helps but usually never hurt. The car has been running very rich though and i have taken it to a diagnostics shop and they can't figure it out, everything seems to be ok but the fuel trim is too high. I cleaned the MAF and did some other things but still haven't gotten it to run the way i want it yet. I am looking at investing in a Hypertech Programmer to reprogram it for power and mileage. Not big into racing so, want something i can cruise with more :) it does get about 24 on the interstate though so not horrible. could be better though!
Took the car to the transmission shop where they said it shifted nice and smooth so the 4l60e is doing good yet :)
Well this is quite a transition last time i posted the car was still tore apart and the tranny was actually GOOD**** - little did i know months later the tranny went out and i had to have it rebuilt with a shift kit, the mechanic said it was from someone dropping it into reverse after reving it up???? Reverse burnout?? wow whoever owned this car i would def. like to slap silly!!!!!
She has basic color and i started with the camaro wheels but I just pulled them off and put the firebird ones back on, suprisingly i actually like them better, i am currently re doing the camaro wheels to sell and attempt to get ZR1 wheels.
Either way the car is looking ok, in the picture the hood isn't painted yet and the front bumper cover still needs cutting and buffing along with the fender, not complete but closer!!!!
I will post once I AM personally satisified with the car :)
Since i have gotten i have re dyed the leather seats using a Sure-Coat product that covered beautifully. I replaced the aftermarket speakers with 6.5" alpines and have been working a little on the carpet still trying to get stains out (once again whoever owned this before me should be slapped)!!! I plan on putting new carpet in later this year along with new windshield, passenger window motor and new rear speakers. With almost no time to work on the 77 I'm really starting to miss it the goal is to start work on it again tommorow!! :)
Thanks for viewing :) !
