What I've got is a 1963 VW crew cab; my favorite model of all the VW's. It has very little rust for a 43 year old bus that was driven in western Washington for most of its life. It has a 1600dp motor (single carb) with a freeway flyer transaxle. It doesn't fly, but it moves quickly enough for an old bus. The motor is actually the most reliable VW motor I have ever had.
I bought this about seven years ago and to my shame, it sat on the side of my house for about five and a half years. I just recently pulled it into the garage and have purchased a new gas tank (old one was rusted through), new front shocks, and complete tuneup kit to get it back on the road again. Paint and bodywork are to follow in late summer; after that the interior, wheels and sound system will be upgraded as I save up cash.

Plans for the motor include upping the horsepower (or lack thereof) with a Scat 1835 rebuild kit, Bosch 009/Blue Coil ignition, Engle cam, dual Weber carbs, and doghouse oil cooler upgrade. I plan on getting a new tranny as this one is getting pretty tired, and it probably won't handle the hp upgrade too well.
