This is my 1971 HQ LS COUPE. I bought this car when I was 15 which was in 2004
When I first saw my cousins HQ COUPE (Gazza's Coupe) I wanted one aswell, and I ended up getting one. When I brang it home I knew straight away what I wanted to do to and what I wanted it to look like. I wanted a HQ single headlight front not premier front, and also the GTS guards, dash, wheels etc.
The coupe has a 202 colum shift auto. But I want a V8 so I am going to throw in a 308 automatic with a b&m quick shifter in it! By the time i am completly finished with my car and im off my P's I want a 350 chev with about $15,000 to spend on the motor and gearbox etc.
Since I've had this coupe I have basically stripped the whole car. Like taking the front end panels, guards, doors off, and bear metalled the whole car. There was a few rust spots here and there like both sills on the car where rusted out, the bottom corner of the quarter panel, where the front and back windscreens sit there were little holes, and also rust on the passenger side pillar and the front corner of the roof on the passengers side aswell.
My dad who is doing the body work cut out where the rust was in the sills and replaced them by cutting and welding metal plates and welding them on. The car is now in undercoat and there is still a long way to go before the car is drivable thats for sure!
As for interior it will defenitly need to be all done again, as all the seats are ripped and are just no good.
Here are some pictures just before the coupe was about to get undercoated. Doing the finishing touches.
This is what it looked like when it was in primer (undercoat).
After I primered and highfilled the coupe I started stripping the front end, paint stripped the firewall, scraping and wire wheeling underneath the car to make it look nice and neat. And its now ready to be sprayed black underneath and also the rails and firewall.
Here are some pics when the monaro got spray puttied (highfill).
