This was definitely the biggest project I have done to date. Started off in February of 2008, at which point I bought and tore apart a stock 5.0 HO and got it ready to head off to the machine shop. During that time, I planned out the engine combo. After all was said and done, it was March 2009. I had a 306 built from the bottom-up. Forged pistons, 9.5:1 compression, ARP rod bolts, GT40Y aluminum heads, ARP head bolts, 1.7 roller rockers, GT40 intake and a stock HO camshaft. Drove it for about 1000 miles and had it dyno'd; 240rwhp and 300rwtq. Unfortunately, the engine developed oiling problems and the main bearings got wiped out, at which point I had to start over again. We threw the old HO engine back in to get the car running again, then added underdrive pulleys, electric fan w/a dual speed fan controller, 130amp alternator, and a pair of Autometer gauges. The 306 received a few revisions, like a cast steel Eagle crankshaft, new lifters, and new trickflow pushrods. The combo remained the same otherwise. In November of 2010, the 306 finally returned to the Tbird's engine bay. As of January 2011, 800 miles and still running great. Updated dyno numbers coming soon. Here are pictures of the project.
