My 1965 mustang fastback before it became a restomod started out as an unmolested 92,000 original miles San Jose, California car. It was built in Ford's San Jose plant on June 22 or 23, 1965 with a 289 2 barrel carb V8 and C-4 automatic tranny. It was white w/ a standard black interior. It was purchased from its 3rd owner on Sept.30,2005 and flatbedded to Arizona where the process of turning this survivor into a state of the art restomod street machine began. A close inspection of the car revealed only surface rust in a few places.

The car was totally stripped out from stem to stern and then sent to the media blaster and afterwards to the body shop for some additional paint removal in the tight spots and to have a coat of primer put on. The media blasting confirmed this was a rust free survivor. The previous three owners all lived in San Jose and forty years in California did this baby no harm. The floors are solid as is the cowl. No rust in the usual places. I did ultimately replace the passenger front fender and the hood but only because the amount of work needed to get them "perfect" was more expensive than replacing them. Every other body part on the car is oem Ford.
Next came the process of modifying the unibody and prefitting the suspension, engine and tranny before the car went to the body shop. The body was put on a rotisserie and the suspension and all modifications were prefit.

The intent was to have everything set to go back into the car as soon as it came back from the shop and not have to start test fitting and drilling or welding after the car was painted.
The new engine is a 302 crate motor with Mass Flo EFI attached to a T56 six speed, aluminum driveshaft and a Currie 9" rear end w/ 3.73 gears. The rear suspension is a bit different than most. The leafsprings are Flex a Form fiberglass w/Koni shocks and a Maier Racing adjustable panhard bar. The front suspension is Global West springs, UCAs & LCAs, and Opentracker roller spring perches. A modified GW sub-frame connector ties together the front & rear and the engine bay has the Monte Carlo bar and export brace.
Steering is a power Randalls Rack, and brakes are Baer power discs all around.
The interior has a JME gauge cluster w/AutoMeter gauges. Seats are Corbeau high backs, 4 point rollbar and Simpson 5 point belts.
Wheels are Vintage 45 16x8.

The paint scheme is Audi Sprint Blue w/ Corvette Artic white Le Mans stripes and the side stripe w/a different twist. I am building my car not a Shelby clone so I gave it my name -- GT6-R. The GT is obvious. The 6 is for 6 speed tranny or 2006 model year and the R is for race model or restored.,
