I'm 16 and I bought this BII back in April for $500. It's a 5 speed manual with overdrive, and is a 4x4 with manual hubs and transfer case. It had been sitting for over a year and was really filthy inside. The engine was supposedly rebuilt in 04, but the seller wasn't able to provide proof. However it has good compression. I plan on using this as a daily driver and offroad weekend warrior. All mods will be fairly mild, and utilitarian. No bling on this Bronco.
10.17.06 I've purchased an 87 Ranger to replace the Bronco. I'll get a new page for it as soon as I can, but since my digital camera burned up....may be a while.
9.26.06. Well, The Black Machine is now the Blackened Machine. This past Sunday I was driving out on a road called Bald Hills Road. It was gravel and rather bumpy in some areas. While driving the I smelled gas and the engine cut out. I get out and notice puddle on the ground. I quickly discover the fuel line was knocked off of the fuel filter. I dig in the back for my duct tape but found it missing. I couldn't get a cell phone signal and as I'm several miles away from a land line telephone my only choice was to just reconnect it and hope it stayed, or walk a few hours. So I reconnect and am on my way when a few miles down the road it happens again, so I wipe down all wet parts and reconnect it. Then for a few miles I was travelling down hill and had gotten my brakes hot, and of course it happens again, or so I'm assuming. The engine cut out and smoke started coming in the cabin, I look down and see flames around my shifter. I quikly shut it off, pull the fuel shutoff switch, and run out of the Bronco. There's flames falling on the ground, and around the hood. All I had on me was some gatorade but that didn't do anything towards putting it out. The fire had quickly spread to inside the car so I had to run away from it in case it exploded. It didn't but whatever was holding it on the hill got burned and it rolled down about a hundred feet before going into some bushes and flipping on it's side. A couple trees and some bushes caught fire so I had to run down the road about a mile to the highway where I got some help. Me and some guy son a fishing trip drove back up. By now it was just a burnt skeleton, all the interior, tires, windows were gone. We scooped up dirt to smother the fire that was on the surrounding foliage. A few people drove by but did nothing. Finally a Yurok tribal police vehicle drove by and got a fire truck. A few helicopters flew close overhead as well but had no place to land. So my Bronco is now just a pile of burnt twisted metal along a gravel country road. My insurance isn't going to give me anything except for some valuable I lost in the car. I don't have any pictures as my camera was burnt up among other things. But there's a $500 deductible for the stuff in the car so I'll be lucky to get a few hundred. I really want another Bronco II and have already been looking at ads online, so maybe I'll be having a new cardomain page. But it still hurts to see all the work and money burned in front of you.
9.12.06 Clutch installed last night. Took about 3 weeks longer than I'd hoped. Kept coming across bumps such as old style vs. new style throwout bearings, and the transmission did not want to go in that last inch so we ended up lining it up to get a bolt in, and then it was easy. It now has like...power. :o
8.7.06- BII passed California emissions with flying colors. A bit of a surprise, but certainly a pleasant one. Clutch ordered from LMC truck, and will hopefully be installed by my Dad and I this weekend, will try and do brakes too.
Things needing fixing:
Needs brake work.
Things I've fixed or replaced:
Turning signals, horn, parking brake, replaced heater core, new spark plugs, new ignition module, distributer cap and rotar, PCV valve, thermostat, engine coolant temp sensor, valve cover & intake gaskets, oil change (was nasty), fuel pressure regulator, lots of signal bulbs and fuses, attempted to degrease the engine as best I could, air filter, got an IAC and TPS from the junk yard, heater hoses, radiator hoses, oxygen sensor, new clutch, new front driveshaft U-joint, old tires replaced by 235/75 Goodyear Wrangler ATs.
Plans:
---------------
K&N Air Filter
Flowmaster 40 Muffler
High Flow Cat Coverter
PaceSetter Headers
Jet Powerchip
Rough Country 4in. Lift
31in tires (dunno which, plan on doing a lot of mud and occasional beach run)
Rear Lock-Right Locker
Hoping for 4.10 gears, eventually maybe I'll upgrade the D28, but I think it should be fine for just 31s.
Light bar with foglights
Rockrails
Better-than-stock speakers. (Don't care about subwoofers and fancy displays, just need to crank the metal!!!)
Paint Job. Thinking rattle-can black, or maybe I'll just touch up the current paint job, or maybe I'll just leave it. :-/
I've got a lot of hope for the lil guy. However since I pay for EVERYTHING concerning the Bronco, upgrades will be slow. Not all kids are spoiled brats. >-)
