Just bought a 1991 Miata, that was supposedley "well maintained" and "in great shape"...RIGHT! Oh my God, this car was in serious NEED...Need of a LOT of things...such as: Has a hole in the top, the car was partly spray painted, the gauge cover was destroyed with clear dried glue dripping down on the inside of the guauge plastic cover where the dumb ass tried to install "aluminum" around the gauges, there's a 6 inch hole in the drivers seat, the top has a 6 inch hole in it,the headlights were stuck in the up position, and the A/C doesnt work...and that's just to name a few!
Luckily, the engine is in top running shape, although Im sure it wasn't taken care of either, by judging how bad the car was cosmetically. Anyway, I ended up buying it for some strange reason, and paid 1500.00 cash for it.

So, now the fun begins, and these are the things that I want to repair, in this order. Now, keep in mind, I don't know SHIT about Miatas, Im just learning, not to mention, I'm a chic! Luckily, I have a husband who is pretty good, and mechanically inclined as well, but still does not know good contacts as far as miata products/parts and such, so, please send us any advice you have!
Anyway, here's what bothers me, and what I want done:

First: I have to have it painted...I absolutely cannot stand to look at that spray paint on the bumpers, sides, etc. So, A paint job is my first order of business...(Obviously, I don't need any advice on that!)
Second: The Gauge/dash issue. The dashboard itself (Meaning from about midline where the shifter is, all the way over to the passengers side) is ok. It's the "Hump" thing, that houses the gauges that's all screwed up. Now, I'd like to just replace that whole part, meaning the "Hump Thingy", the gauges, as well as the clear plastic that covers the gauges.
My Question: Is that one piece?
How much should I expect to pay? Know anywhere I could get that particular part from?
Oh...and one more thing...Those reverse indiglo things....are those good?
Third: The top....Don't I just need the top itslef? what's that Rain thingy I see advertised with the tops? On ebay they have a no zipper top for 211.00....is that a good price to pay?

Fourth: The A/C!!!!!!!!!!! I live in Florida...but I won't be doing that repair myself, so no explanation needed there!

and Fifth (for now that's all!) : the back bumper thing that goes between the headlights is missing...I don't have any idea what that part is called, but it's like the Upper Bumper or something...so, if anyone knows what that part is called, where I can get it, and how much it should cost, PLEASE let me know, that, so far, has been the hardest thing to find, as I don't know the proper name of it....
Well, that's it for now, it's just the beginning of a long, long LONG road, that Im sure many of you have been down before, so, if you have any advice at all, please give it give it give it!
THANK YOU!

Thanks for visiting my site :) As for the repairs, the engine and clutch came up to $5500, the rear end was $2000.00, and then I also had various other strange things such as the throttle position sensor, the igniter, fuel pump, mass air flow, and rear calipers break on me. So just repairs has been close to $10,000. As for you having to do those repairs, you may or may not have the crankshaft problem, it all depends on what your crank pulley looks like. There is a good (but old) article here: http://www.miata.net/garage/crankshaft.html Hope that helps!
